Any indication so far whether the maps app will be online/offline?

Ordered 23.05 and did not get an invitation so far (with the 100€ preorder, and in Finland) Really hoping I would get one since I have a day off, and my N9 simtray is starting to fall apart and I'm hoping I can cope with it till my Jolla arrives..

If it's anything like the Maps on the Lumia 800/N9 there'll definitely be an offline option.

I would hope so, but there was mention of the word 'cloud' in one of the announcements which makes me unsure

This is what I hate of the real world. Most end consumers don't understand open source or how the os is with the hardware. All they care about is - specs, SPECS, SPECSS! and will it have xyz app? Now Jolla has made a compromise where you can run android apps on the device. Yet people are still complaining about the Yandex store. Why? Does it need to have GOOGLE'S name in the store? Yandex store has most of the "MUSTHAVE" software for the end user. Why?

arrrrghhhhhhh. can't wait. who lives in finland?!?!?!?! i want this device so badly but live many miles from finland in another continent!

actually, to be honest, jolla's allure for me is the software - the OS. not the hardware.

It's Sailfish official maps.
Map data is coming from Nokia's Here platform and the frontend is made by Apello.

Sorry, I don't buy that, what I suggested wasn't extremely unreasonable, in fact, it would've been the ideal way for them to go.
Hopefully they'll have other such programs soon-ish that even out the imbalance, or maybe they just won't bother at all.
