i dont have a blog but i want to bore you the same with my theory:

if nokia announces (and decides) that it will come to n900 that will break the agreement with sygic. if announces (and decides) that it wont it will piss off a lot of people just a couple of days before the apple event.
and more important: a symbian phone, today, is a smartphone for dumb people. problem is that dumb people today buys iphones. and more dumb people will buy iphones in the future, in a few days we will see iphone 4 and all. nokia must give dumb people something cause theres plenty of unsold n97 out there.

then n900 is almost sold out everywhere. and certainly nokia doesnt need to push it right now. im pissed of about this but im not gonna sell it either. and nokia doesnt need dumb people to buy n900. too much cost for support, and it would ruin the product image.

obviously its just my theory

I second that. N900 is for smart and innovative people, who are not depending of fashion phones and from the way of think of the masses.

I think it's a huge announcement and not at all lame. I think it's groundbreaking and will force others to up their game. If I was in the market now for a mobile this would really make me consider Nokia.

I'm just smarting 'cos it's not for the N900 (yet?).

Really....? Thats interesting! Not in a negative way, I'm just trying to understand.
So whats your thought on the quality of the nav program? Doesn't that come into play? If the software just barley works, is it still worth it? Is it still a big deal? Once again....just find it interesting and looking for an honest response.

On a side note: I read an article about Googles GPS Map nav and it basically said its ok to use sometimes. That it does not make a good main Nav system. So once again...Even though its free, It does not make me want to rush out and get it. I'm sure Apple will be doing the same soon. Its kinda funny seeing them team up with MS again.

My personal idea of what would be huge would be the amount of functionality it has, and how it has an impact on making my life that much easier. The N900 has a lot of hardware that could do amazing things and be very useful/helpful. (I think skype integration was a good idea....now it just needs to be fixed.)Its just there's not much to take advantage of it yet. I dont care what the device looks like...I want to know...what can it do for me. Ok I'm running in circles here...lol sorry about that.

Where do you get the idea that it barely works? The Ovi Maps with Turn by Turn that I use on my E75 is superb and better than Tom Tom and Garmin versions that I've used before. I hear that this latest version is better still.
Don't base it on what currently exists on the N900 because it's not a finished product on Maemo yet. And yes that part frustrates me too!

I was never aware of any pay-features on N900 Ovi Maps to begin with. So we still have the same less-functional version of Ovi Maps than Symbian platform has. Nothing new about that.

Ovi maps 3 on symbian wasn't bad. I wouldn't say it's as good as my Tomtom but I'm not sure I'd have bought my Tomtom if I'd have had turn by turn already for free on ovimaps.

Maps on the N900 isn't all there IMO - hence my wanting the latest version for the N900. So yes quslity does matter but I think it's sufficient on symbian devices to make a difference.

My point about being a huge change is really about what people will now be expecting with phones out of the box. If you've never had turn by turn, always quite fancied it but hadn't been able to justify the cost - suddenly you can get it for next to free next time you upgrade your mobile. I'd imagine there's a fair few people who think like that. Hell - if Sygic thought there was enough of a market for an N900 only to port their software then the market must be there in abunance across all smart phones. And suddenly it's free.....

You're right in that we have nothing new. The new part is the worry for some that Nokia doesn't deem Maemo 5 worthy of the software! I'm note convinced of this and still feel it'll come in time. The waiting's the hard part obviously!

Unfortunately that is where I get the idea. (N900) That and the GPS lock takes forever, but thats has nothing to do with the Maps. (Hmm...is that a hardware problem or a software problem?)

As for what you said....thats good to know. Thanks for informing me.

I guess my argument is invalid

my gps locks quite fast.
it takes about one minute to have a lock.
and this with the network-assistance disabled in the gps-preferences.
if it's enabled it just takes about 10 seconds.
btw: i'm from germany but i don't think that this fact influences the functionality. ^^

Does it? I checked prices on geizhals.at for both the EU and Austria, and while prices in the EU remain constant since mid-december (they were a bit lower first - obviously shops didn't know how customers would react), they keep rising in Austria week after week.
