Well I guess u know something I don't.

In the light of today's depressing developments (part of me is still hoping to wake up and find out it was all a bad dream) the N900 is undoubtedly going to be my last ever Nokia phone (have used Nokia as my main mobile in all 11 years I have had a mobile). Android is clearly the only option here (WebOS is probably to small to make a significant impact).

What is the best android forum? Would imagine there are tons of android forums given how massive it is.

I was able to VERY VERY VERY easily run Honeycomb on the Nook Color (goddamit! No challenge at ALL! I didn't even have to INSTALL it, I was able to just run it off a microSD card without even touching all the work I'd already done to the internally installed copy (emmc). Anyway--it ran fludily and I can EASILY see how we went from 2.3 to 2.4. You have to USE it hands-on to really get a sense of how this is STILL Android. I can CLEARLY see how apps work--even the old ones. I can also see how this 3.0 version might only work on a tablet but that it might still be perfectly capable of easily evolving to run on a small-screen too. I think Google's really done it right. And it's just a damned limited Nook at 800MHz. Kudos to the Google guys and the open-source community that got it where it is (because you KNOW that it wasn't just Google that did all this--despite all the Maemo/MeeGo rage against Android).

Nope. There was no Android Market on the image I was running but I didn't run it for long anyway. It definitely felt unfinished (it ran well, but it was clearly still in beta--in fact, I was running Honeycomb beta 4 for Nook). You could sideload things via adb, but there was no Market yet, at least not on that image and I didn't go looking around for it.

On the other hand, I've been reading that Froyo is a VERY stable and viable update for the Nook, so I might erase everything and install that instead. The Nook's Android OS looks and feels really awkward and I'm looking forward to installing a PROPER honest-to-God built-from-source OS on there. I'll let you know what works best and report it back here (at least, until TMO disappears for lack of Nokia funding).

If nothing else, I'm on the XDA forums--but it's a HUUUUGE place, so I'mnot sure how you would find me there except by username. I'm assuming you're already there, too?

I hate saying "I told you so" for all the cynicism I've expressed, because it would be so much better for me if I had been proven wrong, but I have an uncanny knack of recognizing the obvious where others would prefer to be optimistic or fanboyish. :P

Despite Nokia's decrepit behavior and nose-diving status, they COULD save themselves and save face and, in the longer run, end up even farther up ahead if they would listen to the things I'd said before about making their PHYSICAL-presence known (sell some support contracts), listening to customers and engineers who are closer to the end-user experience and then rising above the rest to be better by acknowledging the leverage they could get by letting the open-source community help (thus far, despite Nokia's claims to the opposite, they haven't really worked WITH the community, instead placing an increase of barriers to open-source).

Oh well.

Let's see what INTEL (or someone else) can do with MeeGo. That's SUPPOSED to be its big selling point now, right? It's ACTUALLY open-source and no longer tied to Nokia,right? heh Personally, I have higher hopes for Ubuntu Mobile, now.

Why is that an Apple win? o.O? We've been doing all those things on the Android version far longer than the Apple version.

I can't believe people bought the N900, personally. I waited and waited for so long after I had my N800 for some kind of an upgrade to my INTERNET TABLET. I became very annoyed when the next Maemo device turned out to be a me-too iPhone competitor based on Maemo instead of the next and better INTERNET TABLET. I preferred progress over distraction, and I withdrew my intent to purchase it and I still remember being told to censor myself for mentioning it. I also had been told to shut up when I'd said "wouldn't it be appropriate if Nokia went WP7", mainly to point out how it's typical of the way Nokia behaves. It's kind of funny in a sad and cynical way. I can't say I'm surprised to see a company that treats its customers so badly would do this.

I know that Nokia won't say it, so I'm going to pretend I'm a Nokia PR person and say it on their behalf for you: "I'm genuinely sorry that you had to waste your money and go through any hassles you might have experienced to get obtain support, parts and customer service, to find out that we weren't taking the N900 seriously, despite everything we told you along the way." Nokia is what ruined Nokia's brand--not the people, like myself, who loved what they had at one point and then criticized it along the way since.

Anyway, me--I intend to continue hanging around the XDA forums for Android reading, but it's too big to make many regular friends there, I think. If you want to throw me a friend request on Facebook, I'm on there, too, and I reeeeeally love the Droid Fans site for news and friendly bantering the way we do here. It's a shame what Nokia has done to this community. It's a sad, crying shame.

My Navigation App has not been working for a couple of weeks. Everytime I open it it crashes and closes. Did not really bother me until today (in fact completely forgot about). Went to pick my car up from mechanic and completely forgot to take my Tom Tom sat nav. Luckily (or at least so I thought) I had my Tab with me. However, the navigation app on the Tab just kept on crashing.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it? It is one of the built in apps I think so don't think it is available in the market (so I can't just uninstall and reinstall).

On a possibly related note my Tab seems to crash and reboot a lot. Like almost as often as once a day.

Also Advanced Task Killer is set to kill tasks every 30 minutes and each time it kills like 8 apps or more without me having even started any apps. Is it a scam to make you think it is doing a lot? Surely Android cannot possibly be randomly opening apps.

AFAIK to fix Navigator you have to reinstall the Os. As you say it is not a Market app.

The first thing i would do is uninstall Advanced Task Killer and observe from there.

The consensus with Android is not to install task killer apps.

Thanks. Any ideas how to reinstall the operating system? Do you mean I should reflash the device? Not sure I am willing to lose all my settings and files and start all over again.

For the Dell Streak I could direct you to information but I wouldn't know with the Tab. Sorry.

Actually, Google Maps is, in fact, available in the Android Market.

First thing's first--STOP AUTOKILLING APPS. You really need to let Android 2.2 manage memory on its own. I raaaaaaaaaaaarely kill apps to start with and it's been documented all over the Internet that with 2.1, task killing was a necessary evil that killed the battery, but with 2.2 you no longer needed an automated task killer because memory was freed up as necessary and actually helps increase battery life FAR better than an automated task killer (which actually made battery life worse).

Second, assuming you have a rooted Galaxy Tab, you can use Titanium Backup to FIRST: back-up your copy of Google Maps. SECOND: Uninstall Google Maps using Titanium Backup (even OS apps can be uninstalled using TB). THEN, go to the Android Market and reinstall Google Maps.

Lastly, Why is it crashing? I doubt that uninstalling and re-installing will fix that. What is the symptom and how does it crash? Maybe we need to triage the issue before we jump to conclusions about a cure for the problems.
