I posted the same question to newegg chat support regarding my preorder. He said that I would not have to reorder to qualify for the rebate. The date on the receipt would be after the 16th. Not sure I believe it, but I'm not going through the trouble of reordering and getting on the back of the queue again.

I think I believe Newegg. I never pre-ordered a product from them, but usually when I buy a product it takes a few days for it to go through (there's a bit slow in charging sometime..especially if the product is > $500 since it results in the bank having to call you to verify that you placed the order). But the invoice for say the laptop my girlfriend purchased using my account (she paid for it with her credit card).

The only date on the invoice is "Submitted:
9/18/2009 5:01:01 PM"

And I can tell you that's not the date that we placed the order, it's the date they charged the credit card. So if preorders are handled the same way then people who bought the n900 will be eligible for the rebate.

Has anyone had any luck re-pre-ordering from Nokia USA yet? I've spent 2+ hours on the phone now talking to sales reps and supervisors, having my case escalated, and still no new order. I told them if they can't get me a valid order by Monday I'm going to Amazon or Newegg, because I'm done with their incompetence.

On a side note, they claim to be shipping pre-orders from early September at this point.

Hello,

The discounts we offer vary from time to time. I see we currently offer a greater discount on "Nokia N900 Unlocked Cell Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, Maemo Browser, 32 GB--U.S. Version with Full Warranty" than we did at the time you placed order #_.

Since this item hasn't shipped yet, I adjusted the price to reflect the current discounted price, $559.99 . This is the price you'll be charged for this item when the order ships.

So I expect for them to stand by this. Period.

BUT the rebate for does say:
between November 16, 2009 and December 31, 2009....and...Mail-In Form, dated store receipt and Uyear.PC/barcode panel ...

So if they want to stick to the rules and my Amazon invoice reflects the date I actually placed the order, I may not get the rebate, but still a decent price.
Usually these things are to gen up sales in the last Quarter of the year. I just don't see them saying, you were too early. But you pays your money and you takes your chances.

Whatever price you locked it in at is what you'll get it for. On the other hand though, for people who pre-ordered before Nov.16 on Amazon we won't get the $50 rebate because you must include your receipt which will show the pre-order date as the date you ordered it.

Basically you need a receipt that shows you've purchased the device between Nov16-Dec31.

You do realize that is not much of a threat don't you? You are still buying their phone. They are probably laughing their azz off.

So let's get this straight, les--you're saying you don't need a receipt even though it states on it, that you do?

No,
I'm saying just send it in, take your chances. I really can't see the early part mattering. I certainly wouldn't get out of line right now for $50. Especially since you may not get it even if you do everything right. Ohh and then there's the Gimp comment..
