Aside from the generally iffy impression I'm getting overall, it has a resistive touchscreen (which is okay, I suppose, but most apps are far more fluid with and designed for capacitive touchscreens), considering it's large size it's absolutely unforgivable for that unit to only have only an 800x480 resolution (trust me--it's going to look AWFUL at that screen size), and most importantly: 1) Support (any CyanogenMod, Ultimate Droid or ANY kind of community build support? Otherwise, you're likely to be stuck with a one-revision device.) 2) Considering it looks like one of those cheapy Chinese devices, I have to voice my concern regarding the possibility of knockoffs, spyware and general lack of confidence in such devices (for example, the Samsung Cortex A8 might not actually BE a Samsung Cortex A8, i.e. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...security.china)

My own opinion? I'd just as soon avoid it, if I were you. You're better off with a $200 Nook Color, honestly.

I'm inclined to vote with Dan. Looks a little iffy.

Resistive isn't that big an issue for me, most of the time it's not an issue on my S7, but some apps would work better with multitouch.

800x480 is normally a 16:9 resolution, not 4:3, things may look a little funny on that. On my S7, 800x480 doesn't look too bad, it's passable.

Sounds like 3G is an add-on, so no GPS built-in. Probably no market either, at least without workarounds.

7" tablets are just pocketable, 8" may not make it.

I'd be leary of screen quality, and general quality.

Either is too big for my pockets! (I thought the cheap 8" tablet might be of interest to others, not so much for myself.) For my sense of pocketable, I can't imagine larger than 5", and then only if it's built as sveltely as an iPod Touch. I find the N800 too bulky to carry comfortably in a pants pocket. I think the Archos 43 has the best form factor I can hope for. (Whether that brand and unit is the best I can hope for is a different matter. Though I have to say that the user reviews on it, especially since Froyo, are generally very positive.)

Coming March 22nd.

The device is mega thin, but here's hoping that it has choice internals (Exynos 4210) to compliment its ultra-chic exterior.

It looks like this may be the crown jewel of the new Tab family.

After some analysis of the video:
  • The device is likely going to be 8mm thin or less . There's a small hump for the 3.5mm headphone jack, and an even smaller hump for the camera on the rear. It is really, really thin!
  • The lines look absolutely gorgeous, and it seems to be a departure from other tablet designs. It features a nice textured back and a very good looking chrome detailing along the edges.
  • The aspect-ratio of the entire device looks to be 4:3 rather than 16:9. This may compare more closely with the iPad in form factor than any other Tab device. It certainly isn't the ultra-long device I linked to earlier.
  • The bezel seems to be normal sized, which means it will be larger than the 7" Tab in form factor.
  • This tablet has been announced to run Honeycomb, but if you look at the attached pictures (levels modified to reveal on-screen content), you can see what look like Touchwiz 4.0 widgets on the screen! This also gives you a feel for the size of the bezel.
  • The camera looks to be in the corner as opposed to the middle of the device. The camera lens is cased in a chrome square with rounded corners. There is a rectangular flash below it. Quite an elegant look.
  • In one of the shots, there's a strange hole that *looks* like a headphone jack, but is missing the well-known hump (pictures attached). If these pictures are accurate, then I'm stumped as to what this can be.
  • It seems that there's a sim/microSD tray and speakers/dock in one of the shots. This could also be a mico USB or some other port. Nothing fancy, though it does look well presented.

It seems that a netflix Android platform has leaked!

No streaming yet, though this is encouraging.

Netflix officially supports Qualcomm processors to handle its DRM brew. Seems odd, but perhaps some DSP not found elsewhere is present the Qualcomm SoCs -- or perhaps, the information is false, and there's some political agenda at play.

That's just it. The Tab 7" excels at 'quick transport' using nothing but pockets. For example, carting it around the house whilst keeping your hands free. Even in some situations it would work in a large coat pocket outdoors, or side pockets on 'cargo' pants.

Precisely, and this is why I'm not terribly interested in a 10" tablet. For instance, this weekend we were at my daughters cheer competition. I was playing on the tablet when my 3 yr old wanted picked up. Slipped it in my back pocket, picked my son up. Elapsed time 5 seconds. Later on, he was watching a movie on it.

I'm the same way. I feel I would be much more inclined to use the device if I could just jam it in my pocket and carry it around with me. A 10" device would be too 'high maintenance' requiring my hands to use it constantly, and a seat to use it for extended periods.

It's a small difference, though I'm with you: I think it will affect the amount of time spent actually using the unit.
