Here's a description of the new Android 3.0 rendering system an enabling hardware acceleration:
http://android-developers.blogspot.c...eleration.html

Quite a dry read, but still interesting!

Here's a video of the new rendering framework in action! View in 720p for the best results.

Stunning!

What's interesting is that this demo was created using the standard Android UI toolkit. That's right, it doesn't include fragments, and other than the 3.0 hardware acceleration, is probably doable on Android 2.2.

Updated stats from the Google Market reveal that a full 90% of devices are running at least v2.1

Quite impressive indeed. Hopefully developers start taking serious advantage of these new OS features!

This looks like it will be a really fun game: KartRider
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpP-bbRlA_g

It's running on the iPod touch, but the developer assures that the coming Android version will be no different.

Precisely, and this is why I'm not terribly interested in a 10" tablet. For instance, this weekend we were at my daughters cheer competition. I was playing on the tablet when my 3 yr old wanted picked up. Slipped it in my back pocket, picked my son up. Elapsed time 5 seconds. Later on, he was watching a movie on it.
I'm the same way. I feel I would be much more inclined to use the device if I could just jam it in my pocket and carry it around with me. A 10" device would be too 'high maintenance' requiring my hands to use it constantly, and a seat to use it for extended periods.

It's a small difference, though I'm with you: I think it will affect the amount of time spent actually using the unit.
Well my 7" tab is a keeper....

I am aslo getting a 10" Tab for home, and school use....I also will be using my 10" tab along with my CCNA class....hopefully there is "an app for that"....lol.

I ASLO WANT My 10" tab for Automotive Technology tranining....and use it with a bluetooth OBD I and OBD II.

Here is the kicker....I only need wifi....don't need 3G!

Actually, I already use both my Droid and Galaxy Tab with the Torque app and my Bluetooth OBD2 module so I can monitor my 2000 Ford Windstar. (My 1993 Honda Del Sol and 1974 Volkwagen Beetle are both too old to be used with OBD2... phooey!) It works INCREDIBLY well!! I especially love watching the MPG graphs.

Samsung is driving hard to the hoop!

The upcoming HBO GO service will provide 1400 HBO programs to be available via their HBO GO app!

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/03/samsung-hbo-hbo-go/

A bold move indeed, and one that should resonate well with viewers!

Current HBO subscribers can watch on-demand for free!

Samsung is positioning itself very aggressively to provide content on its devices, though smart partnerships. Very, very, nice.

It seems that the Android browsers page-load speeds are extremely competitive.

Here they are against mobile safari:

http://gizmodo.com/#!5782939/android...-on-the-iphone

I never understood why the metric of loading speed seems to be synonymous with browser-speed to most people. After all, there are many other aspects of performance to consider.

It's official, the Market Stats module is available to developers:

http://android-developers.blogspot.c...id-market.html

This lets developers make important decisions about targeting their apps based on actual user statistics. This is a very good idea.
