Yo Dan,

I am really leaning towards the NC ($ vs $$$ Tab etal) as an N800 replacement.

My concern now is storage. I currently have 8GB+ MP4 video on my N800.

Given an NC running android from the MSD, how much storage do you have access to? (ie media: video,mp3 etc)

How do you get the data onto the NC?

Thanks

Snoshrk

PS did I read that you have a BT ODBII plug? What is it & how much?

thx Sno

Interestingly, 86% of users are using v2.1 and v2.2 .

It would seem that claims of 'fragmentation' are somewhat overstated, however, I wonder how this will change when v2.3 hits the market en-mass as v2.1/2.2 was part of Android's explosive growth.

I would bet that at 86% for a major version (v2), android is actually less fragmented than other popular smartphone OSs.

This lets developers make important decisions about targeting their apps based on actual user statistics. This is a very good idea.
Wow, look at all those stats made available to their community.

And where can we find (any sort of data) on maemo/MeeGo apps on Ovi??

I don't have the Nook Color in front of me right now, but if my memory serves me right, you get 1GB for internal app space (which, by the by, doesn't seem like much but I don't think anybody cares anymore, since you can run stuff off the SD card ever since Android 2.1, and 2.3 makes it FAR FAR more transparent and better to manage too--plus, even the porkiest, fattest apps are measured in kilobytes--like Angry Birds is only around 12-16KB depending on the version). Then you have 5GB of emmc internal media storage--which is where I think the kernel and CyanogenMOD gets installed, too. I think I remember reading that it's not available to actually use but I think they're trying to fix that in the next release... but then I never bothered touching it since I prefer using microSD cards for storage, since things move around from device to device a lot easier that way. Then there's the microSD--which can be up to 32GB.

If you're going to have files in excess of over 4GB, due to the limitations of FAT filesystem, I would highly recommend picking up the biggest microSD card you can (up to 32GB, I've seen then for as little as around $60 now) and format it with ext4. CyanogenMod 7 will mount and work great with ext4 on SD cards (I had been doing that myself, actually... it's not like we use Windows anywhere in our household anyway).

As for getting data onto the NC, if you're running the OS out of emmc (the way I do), the microSD card will be mounted in /media/sdcard (which I thought was odd, since all the other Androids I've owned mount it at /sdcard off the root filesystem... but it's not that big a deal). If you're booting your OS directly off the SD card, I have no idea. I'm sure you can do it but I hadn't tried dropping files into the NC while running an OS off the SD card (it just never came up, since I was usually just trying out the OS, never really thinking I'd actually use it for long).

In any case, I HIGHLY recommend just installing CyanogenMod 7 to the emmc. There's always the ability to flash everything back to factory-image if you really need to revert back to the Nook Color's default OS (say for a return or something).

As for the BT adapter, I don't remember where I bought it but I clearly remember making sure that it's an ELM 327 chipset module. This seems to look IDENTICAL to the one I have:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lpo_k2_dp_sr_2

Here's some that look like they should work too:
http://www.amazon.com/XiTech-Bluetoo.../dp/B004HF7WLO
http://www.amazon.com/Soliport-Bluet...=pd_sbs_auto_1
...and so on and so on...

You can find out more about Torque and see what they recommend as hardware modules at its website and especially in the wiki from: http://torque-bhp.com/

Let me know if you want me to go poking around that Nook Color sometime when I can get my hands on it again (when my mother isn't using it) or if you want any more info about the OBD2 or Torque stuff.

Cheers!

Please, brother, you're talking about Nokia providing something back to a community. How has THAT been working out historically?

Another game that should play well on the Galaxy Tab:

Guerrilla Bob:

TAB VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M_II2apoUc

A fine testament to Unity 3D! I'm so glad that there's official support for Android.

That said, looks like a lot of fun!

The Android Market is quickly catching up with the iOS App store in total number of apps:

http://www.gsmarena.com/android_mark...-news-2430.php

In 6 months, the Android app count has exploded by 150K apps! Although this can't continue forever, it looks as though Android will catch up with iOS later this year.

I expect backwards/forwards compatibility and the aggressive Dalvik strategy is paying off. Many of these apps will be supported for years to come, and many will spill over onto the tablet without requiring a second specialized app.

Of course quality/quantity is another debate altogether.

Dude! Awesome reply.

For some reason in all the reading here and there .... and over there... on the NC and alternate OS's, I seem to have gotten the idea that it is running off of the SD (ala dual boot N800 )

Unless the Streak7 wifi or the Tab wifi drop significantly in price I should be joining the NC ranks in a month or so....

Thanks again

Yeah, the Tab 10.1 looks pretty great. Take a look at this video:

I'm personally more interested in what Samsung has lined up for the Galaxy Tab 8.9". It looks extremely thin, and quite enticing!
