Atomic mega-bomb.. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 has been revealed (and one day early):

http://www.thegalaxytab.com/2011/03/...ails-revealed/

Features include:
  • 8.9" screen @ 1280×800 resolution
  • Mind-numbing 8.6mm thin (thinner than most smartphones)!
  • 1GHz dual-core proc with 'PC-like' performance (Tegra? Exynos?)
  • only 470 grams
  • first honeycomb with customized UI (Touchwiz?)

Just remember, you heard it here first!

The resolution AND form factor PLUS dual-core makes this a compelling device! I might seriously considering it, depending on whether it'll work with existing Galaxy Tab accessories. (I have the keyboard dock and the HDMI dock... I imagine the car dock will CLEARLY not work with it.)

The keyboard dock and hdmi dock may have to be modded to fit this device, but hopefully they still work.

I agree, at 8.6mm and weighing just 1lb, this would be a damn sexy beast, and 1280x800 on the smaller screen would be oh so nice. Of course honeycomb isn't hurting anything either.

I wonder if the cameras are quality cameras... I would love at least 5MP on the back, but hope that they keep the 8MP found in the larger Tab 10.1.

We've been duped!

The individual claiming that he cracked the Moto encryption, flat out lied:

Not cool, man.

Here's an interesting app (or framework, not sure) called PTPT demo'd on a Tab 7.
http://petitpetit.de/en/products/intro.html

Basically this looks to first, centralize data on a device and second, associate the data using 4 basic types (person, thing, place, time -- PTPT, get it? ). Each piece of data can have one or more of these 4 types. The app can then be used to intelligently display a users data using these associations.

The concept is novel, and very smart, though the implementation is entirely too complex for the layperson. When I find myself having to read a secondary page to find out what a bit of tech does, then its already too hard for most.

Perhaps with a bit of massaging, this could be quite cool.

It looks as if the Tab 8.9 is getting some great feedback via Engadgets comment system:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/21/s...s-leak-out-be/

The main concern is battery life, and I can understand! With a device this thin, there's less room for a battery! Of course the iPad proved that a thin device can have stellar battery life, so I'm hopeful.

Does anyone know if there's a new battery tech making it into the consumer space?

This certainly will be Samsung's flagship Tab for the next 6 months! If they stay on their current schedule, expect another device for the holiday season. Just as with mobile phones, Samsung is looking to release a bevy of devices suited for different users.

Oh my!

This is an INSANE price for data. Virginmobile Canada is offering Flexi-data for tablets:
http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/hot-of...tablet-50.html

What it gets you is 500MB for $20, which jumps to $35 for a whopping 5GB if you go over. This is also pay-as-you-go, so there's no need to worry about cancellation or hidden fees. Best of all? Virgin uses Bell's extensive network that has fantastic coverage all over this syrup-laden land. The best part? The SIM only costs $5.

Since you'd be ordering online, I wonder if this SIM will also work in a smartphone (IMEI number would likely be needed for activation). This could be the VoIPer's dream come true. Last I checked, Bell offered a similar plan, though it was tied specifically to a Tablet. Any guesses?

Gotta go. My Canadian bacon is just about done, and my favorite Celine Dion song is about to start, eh?

Big tablet, small hands? I know your pain, except the part about the small hands -- my hands are manly, very manly.

Anyhoo, Swiftkey should put the spring back in your step:

There is a closed beta now in testing! Here's hoping it'll be a quality release when it goes public.
