I have tried to install KDE several times on my N810 and I get hung up with unable to install.

I am pretty sure I have the complete files - checked the sizes.

What I am not sure of is if I put them in the proper places. Do I put all the files on my external SD card or the MMC2 file on the N810?

When I put all the files on my SD Card I get hung up on the kde-3.5.8-mmc1.deb hangs up.

If I split them up I get hung up on the local-mmc2.deb install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am assuming that you are installing from the SD card, not the internal card, correct?

You should ONLY download the files with mmc1. The mmc2 files are for the internal slot. You only need one set of files, in this case the mmc1 set.

Thanks Drizek for the quick reply.

local-mmc1.deb
kde-3.5.8-mmc1.deb
kdesup-3.5.8.deb
KDE358.tar.bz2

to my External 2GB card which is MMC1.

I read in another post that the KDE358.tar.bz2 file goes on MMC2. Is this right? Or does it stay on MMC1?

No, it goes on MMC1 as well.

It goes wherever you're installing KDE.

You know you can move the maps to the external, right?
Then you can put KDE on the internal without giving up anything.

Got it working. Thanks everyone!

I put all the files on the external MMC1 card and it installed fine.

My big mistake was that I downloaded both sets of files (MMC1 and MMC2).

For anyone else who is new to this, here is what I did:

1. Flash the latest update to the N810

2. Download and put these files on a blank external 2 GB SD card. I used my PC card reader to copy the files over.

local-mmc1.deb
kde-3.5.8-mmc1.deb
kdesup-3.5.8.deb
KDE358.tar.bz2

I too had some trouble getting the complete download so be sure to check the size.

3. Install the files in order as posted by Peguinbait.

4. In Extras run KDE.

For me, if it crashed I had to re-flash to try again.

@dubwise, if I move maps to my SD card and install using the MMC2 files what is the advantage?

Penguinbait,

Many thanks for this app and your previous support on other threads.
I successfully accomplished the dual boot setup with on a 16gb class 6 sdhc card.
Now I want to add your kde app for dual boot. I will use Pronuke instructions. Now my
question is I have USB Host mode using the osso status bar app. I have read that there
conflicts with kde and USB Host mode(osso status bar). Is there a way to setup kde
so that USB Host mode is not disabled or afficted. I'm thinking that since I have
USB Host mode working from normal flash(not dual boot) if I setup kde on dual boot mode
I should be ok. Any experience with this kind of setup? Any assistance or thoughts
would be greatly appreciated. Dan

Be aware that there are still some typos in there.

After the sfdisk line, he has you doing mke2fs, should be mkdosfs.
The second partition he has you format gets mke2fs.

The line after you get tar should be
cd /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/ , not ...home/usr/MyDocs...

He has you apt-get bkzip, should be bkzip2.

Also, the last bit, you have to zxvf the SUP.tgz. jxvf won't do.

Other than that, it's pretty useful.
