I personally find those names cool because of this connection. So, if anyone is using the intellectual property of the author to promote their gadgets, they should pay what is due.

The alternative is to stick to stupid unimaginative names such as N900 or iCrap.
$10 says they don't have a case (read the analysis in the article-- it's on target).

Except, of course, that engadget is NOT so biased toward Apple.

The only people who seem to think so are the people who are heavily biased against Apple. Just like the only people who think that they're heavily biased against Apple are the Apple fan boys (and I've seen tons of people assert that perspective, as well).

Given all of the different things they post about, and all of the different product lines that they give love to, they seem to be more "usually positive on (all) products" (unless they're genuine "crapgadget" products). The people who see bias appear to be people who are themselves heavily biased.

I was referring to the US market and palm most certainly did create the smartphone US market. The confusing part is some people left formed handspring then remerged with palm. But just because nokia and eicsson beat palm to market I don't think you can dismiss palm. If that's the case ibm can dismiss them all

I never said they should, I only said the trial would be more interesting.

where are you from? I stop reading Appgadet and Appmodo because its plain as day, to see they never see any negative from apple but all other products get kick down, they even have a app of the week come on!!

I'm in the US. And I'm no-longer an Apple fan (haven't been since I got my Nokia N800, years ago).

I see plenty of positive coverage for non-Apple gadgets on their site (including things that compete with Apple). I've also seen them put negative (to Apple) statements in their coverage of Apple articles. The fact that they're mostly positive in their coverage of Apple matches that they tend to be mostly positive in their articles in general. I mean, posting that "this gadget from company A has some nice new features" doesn't mean that they're biased toward company A. They do plenty of "this gadget from company B also has some nice new features", as well. Do they have a lot of Apple articles? like the app of the week? Sure. Duh. Apple, and the iPhone are popular. You'd be a ***** to expect them to NOT do a lot of Apple articles. And, they have lots of non-Apple articles too.

The main bias isn't in their writers, it's in their commenters ... which tends to balance out (so it's more a matter of "their readers are heavily polarized about Apple", than an overall bias for or against Apple).

And, really, your comments make it pretty clear that my original comment explains your view quite well: the only people who think they've got a pro-Apple bias are ... people who are biased against Apple.

If they have a bias, it's "being generally positive in their coverage" (of any product, from any company, except KIRF and Crapgadget reviews). Which is not new in any form of journalism. Easier to attract readers with positive writing, unless you're TRYING to be divisive and capture a very specific audience. Being overly negative when trying to capture a general audience only works in politics.

They do have slight bias and they promote the "simplicity" a hell of a lot for someone like myself. Intuitive doesn't mean a 10 year old should be able to use it, and theres no need for a one device fits all.
Some of their negativity towards maemo was to say it wasn't for the mainstream, but if mainstream equals simple to use then why is that a negative for a geek. It just needs enough interest for developers to work on (which it has).

But they do keep the pressure on the manufacturers to get their products as polished as Apples and they have been neutral on the recent patent issues.

Their hate of resistive screens and their self-importance they sometimes have with market projections is sometimes horrible but they could be much worse.

And in recent news Apple has filed an IPTC complaint againist Nokia and asked for a ban on importing Nokia devices to the USA. Though consider Nokia devices aren't as popular in the USA I think the Nokia move hurts Apple first.

This is a desperate move. Maybe apple doesn't have the money to pay off.

They have failed in the 90's when microsoft saved their ***.
They have failed recently together wit the "great" motorola cpus when mac turned into a pc.
