It seems there are mixed results with different lower voltage kernels.
I think there is no "one size fits it all" solution as everybody has a different chipset quality
and different usage pattern.
for example, for me the latest XLV kernel worked perfectly with very low battery discharge.

My current plan is to replace the different kernels with a single kernel that can be configured while running. This would mean less maintenance for me, easier installation (from extras) and no need for reflashing.
In addition to min/max frequency settings it should have an option to select a voltage look up table
(normal, LV, ULV, XLV) and the possibility to disable some frequencies in the table
(e.g. 250 Mhz to get a permanent minimum of 500). I'm currently investigating whether this is possible.

To get wget, in xterm become root (you can just type root and hit enter if you have installed rootsh) and then type apt-get install wget
and hit enter.

ok try

sudo gainroot

Code:
wget http://maemory.com/N900/overclock/lv/kernel-maemo_2.6.28-maemo21_armel.deb
i have done this many times trying to install titans kernels

so i know it works

First impressions with the ideal titan kernel seemed fine. But suddenly after I increased the max freq to 850 MHZ the system crashed

So I reflashed the origin pr1.1.1 kernel and phone is running fine again and I can retry switching to the overclock kernels...

However after reinstalling the stock kernel the version info in the settings about screen shows "unknown". I tried to resolve this by reinstalling mp-fremantle-generic-pr but this fails because of an hildon-initscripts dependency failure:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mp-fremantle-generic-pr: Depends: hildon-initscripts (= 1.26-1+0m5) but 1.26-1+dp1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

Is there another way to fix this? I tried to force just download of the mp-fremantle* package, but this gives the same problem. I also tried to download the package manually using wget but this fails (or I do not use the proper URI).

Is someone willing to show the output of:

dpkg -L mp-fremantle-generic-pr

Or maybe can download the package using apt-get install -d and make the package available to us?

I hope that can help to get the version info back

Thanks

there a lots of warnings even on a normal stock kernel. you can usually ignore them
but if you're worried report them here.

ideal is like XLV but with 250Mhz disabled. for some people this may consume less power as the device can get a job done quicker at 500 than at 250.

125000 and 600000 are ignored. use 124999 and 599000 if you really want to set them.

see the instructions on the wiki page.

So, the XLV is more battery saver than the ideal one ? Or i dont understoot well?

I installed now the 'ideal' kernel, 500 min - 850 max.
If i check the pmconfig file, the values are default: min=125000 max= 600000 (so it is ignoring the pmconfg file?)

So..how can i push up this kernel max over 850? To 900 Mhz, for example (permanently).
Edit pmconfig file or..is other way?
