Everyone just wants a clear answer on Meego, which Ari does not want to give. Everyone is just concerned about future support/apps.

There are many (and will be more) pissed off customers. This ambiguity (rightfully or wrongfully) has made things 100X worse.

I am not a anti Nokia troll, but Nokia's silence on these points is very bad. I would respect them more and consider buying future Nokia products if they would just BITE THE BULLET and COME OUT and state the obvious - no meego for n900.
Man, there are some pi**ed off Nokia customers commenting on Ari's blog. Looks like a PR nightmare for Nokia.

It's a timing and roadmap issue.

It's like the 80's BETAMAX/VHS tape issue - nobody want's to be stuck with a BETAMAX tape!

Just look at the meego.com site.
What do you see on the very first page, left to the "Welcome to MeeGo!" caption?

A Nokia N900? What a coincidence!
I think that it speaks for itself.

The Maemo5 sandbox like experience is great but god dammit Nokia should SUPPORT the phone for future operating systems and FINISH Maemo5's missing features (flash 10 anyone?)... Them stating the community will finish it is absolutely ********. The community should be given an opportunity to IMPROVE and bring new ideas/concepts/programs to the game... Not finish the job of a COMPANY. A Community should create and improve... Not complete and finish...
They do support n900, how hard is that to understand.

after sending an email to nokia USA about feeling my disappointment of announcing meego a couple of months of release of maemo5 in stores(with the n900 ofc), i got this reply:

Based on your concern, meego is just an improved version of mameo, it will just have additional components and features, it will not replace maemo.
means that it wont come officially to N900 for me..but anyway..even if other phone goes live soon with meego, n900 will be the 2nd best phone on planet!(lolz-i just love this phone)

That is very naive mate. If this is true they would have annouced it with Meego for the big bang approach.

Instead, the first annouced meego device is an LG device, NOT a Nokia device - if what you say is true, then that is a marketing screwup of the highest order.

seriously I dont get it - given that their competitors such as Google and Apple do do new OS on prior phones, why doesnt Nokia do it ? Given how "big" Meego is, is it THAT expensive to port at least the initial version or so (so there is at least 1 year or so of support) to n900 ?

Can they not understand that its not always the technology that counts, but that people pay mucho $$$ and sometimes are emotionally invested in their devices and do not want to be left behind.

If not, they Nokia must be run by a pointy haired boss like those dilbert cartoons.

I'm not trying to defend the approach, but please think about it a little more.

Google's and Apple's (and most of the manufacturers') "new" OSs are just incremental updates. They usually don't have any breaking changes on the UI and the basic operation of their devices. Even if you look at Windows Mobile 6.1 -> 6.5 for HTC and Samsung, they just update the OS under the hood, their UIs (Sense and TouchWiz) remain exactly the same.

Now there are many users who buy a device such as the N900. However, only the minority of them even cares about updates or the OS (perhaps less than 10% of the buyers?), the rest are just using it like a regular phone or tablet, and these will never come to this forum.

Now imagine if MeeGo appears for the N900: the average user (who doesn't know what is a software update and why is it good anyway) just hits the "update" button and in a blink of an eye the entire UI and everything changes. S/he'll have to learn to use the device again, and s/he won't understand why. (Add to that the fact that even the user manual can't help them out.)

Although, even if not on an "official" update, I think we'll see an N900 section on meego.com's download site from which the users who care can download and install it. I'm sure of it.

The only announcement that remains: "It won't void your warranty." This way they would ensure that everyone who cares can upgrade and remain safe.

Anyways, I hope for the best. (And I'm going to buy an N900 soon. )

If no MeeGo is released for the N900, then somebody in the Nokia department is gonna hear it LOUD from me!! You can count on it! I will not accept being butf***ed by Nokia for my hard earned cash! And I will NEVER EVER again touch a Nokia handset if this happens!
