I think, regarding all those news, what really (only) gives me some hope is this:
So, we will have more apps in our maemo/n900, thanks to the meego developers.
There is also a possibility of developing applications supporting both operating systems, based on Qt and Qt Mobility APIs on the Maemo side. It means that you can develop once in PC with Qt Creator, and test your applications on both Maemo and MeeGo, directly on your N900 device!

It is easy to configure u-boot to always boot into maemo, and in order to boot a kernel from SD (or internal mmc partition) you need to press a key during u-boot to halt automatic boot, and run a command.

Still, a menu or keypress would be preferable than having to remove the card, even if the card is not as hard to reach as I thought (Matan's post suggests that this should be possible, so that's fine). I wince every time I remove the back cover due to the noise it makes - I keep thinking I'm going to break it!

Including Flash would partly prevent that.
For example I'm using a photoshop like flash application on my N900 and a Poker-game and a Blackjack-game, too.
