When I turned on my HDW-3 the N800 found it straight away and prompted for a pin.., and I got a nice new icon on the taskbar.
But it muted the build-in speakers and I only heard static from the BT HDW-3....,
Mine does the same, so I think it'll work "only" while calling.

Probably is because your headset is not A2DP or however is written.
