C'mon guys, how are we supposed to take you seriously with comments like this?

So pathetic. You should honestly be embarrassed.
Dude. We're talking Android in a Maemo forum. We're going to get some negativity from all the envy. HEY! I gotta be able to poke fun back a little, right? heh

It's odd that they are actively trying to pin down the 'problem' in the most successful phone OS to date, and one that continues to grow in popularity.

I think that articles like this sell ad space, but it also that it would be foolish to base one's opinions on them.
They're clearly trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist. I always boggle at this "Android needs to" talk that the news bloggers seem to be engaged in. They talk as if they're observing some kind of problem that needs fixing but I'm not sure that I see anything wrong so far. I could be wrong, myself, but the last time I checked I thought Android was increasing in market share and successfully breeding an ecosystem that effectively competes with Apple and Blackberry, and appears to have completely dominated over Windows Mobile and WebOS. Maybe I just don't get it? Clearly, I just don't get paid enough to be as smart as these bloggers.

I think the majority are in the UK.

This comment is for the Eee Tab Transformer without the keyboard attachment:
"10hrs 41mins... had wifi on all day (not on standby, it's been connected all that time), been viewing lots of videos, streaming music, games, reading pdfs/comics, lots of multitasking basically, heavy usage, screen has been on at least 9hrs+ and its still got 32% battery left. I'm quite impressed."

And someone was already able to get Super User on the Transformer... Root soon

I think you might be right.

I was in three of the UK stores today but no sign of it. I shall keep checking them.

So I popped in to PC World today and checked out the new iPad2 and some tablets both 10” and 7”.

I really do think that for the above use scenario - in aircraft style cramped seats and a seat back tray - that the iPad/10” size is just not practical. It is cumbersome to remove and replace in a carry bag. If the carry bag is on the tray then the space in which to hold it is much reduced.

A 7” would seem to be the appropriate size in those conditions. But having said that there is no benefit over the Streak for eBook reading, watching YouTube downloads and music listening. Where the 7” comes into its own would be for high definition video watching. Web browsing on the train/plane is not quite here yet.

So I guess my conclusion is that we need a fleet of these things. A 5” in the pocket when moving round, a 7” for long journeys and the sofa and a 10” for the sofa only. That may seem extravagant but the way prices are falling, say £300 each, that is probably not a bad combined deal.

Also I am still to be convinced by the benefits of a tablet greater than 7” when set against the awkward handling. Which brings us back to personal use scenario.
I find this introspection about size very interesting, especially from someone that has had experience with a bunch of different sized devices.

I think your testimony will have a large bearing on my future purchases.

I would have loved the Tab 7 with Tab 8.9 specs. 7 seems like a very good compromise between mobility and real-estate. I'm curious how the 8.9 does, though I'm somewhat doubtful that it will have the same pull-out-and-go aspect that the 7 incher does.

The streak 5 seems like a great size as well, though I think I like just that little bit more screen real-estate that the Tab 7/streak 7 would offer.

While I could see purchasing more than one device, at the rate these things are evolving, I would hate to have to upgrade 3 at once!

Indeed we are. I dont' feel bad replying once and a while to ridiculousness, as I suspect you don't.

Precisely.

Android isn't perfect, and there are tons of things that can be improved, but it is a project to be revered rather than scorned -- especially when using argumentative fodder against the OS that the other vendors unabashedly implement (eg. closed software).

Uh, yeah! I'm loving the battery life, the screen (un-asus like), and the price, and I think I'd spring for a 10-incher when these devices can reach ATOM-like performance (cortex A15) for some true productivity.

I'm also hoping that I can a) dual-boot ubuntu, b) run ubuntu inside of Android (x client, people!) or c) run a virtual ubuntu session.

In this case, the transformer would be too hot to dismiss.

But it *is* mighty tempting. It's only the size and the weight that turns me off somewhat.

Skype with video coming to Android!

http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/s...t-celebrations

I suppose the skype corporation has felt the pressure of Google Talk...

Still I'll take Google Talk which relies on open codecs, open protocols, and open source. This pleathora of closed subscriber based solutions isn't working for me.

It looks like Intel may be seriuosly looking at Android:

http://androidandme.com/2011/04/news...coming-in-may/

Could this have anything to do with the MeeGo project losing Nokia?

Either way a win for open source, and it's good to see Intel digging in for the fight. Intel is a formidible competitor, and while ARM may have the lead in this new market, I expect that ARM and Intel soon compete in the same market. The question is, can Intel reach the efficiency of ARM SoCs?

I decided to get this little beast, just need to find a good online store that also ships to Australia.

Rumour is that this will only be sold in Australia in June / July?
