You can't honestly expect the large number of people who use the camera to make due with a accessory device for the benefit of the few people who work in places with strict security policies, can you?

A compact flash slot you say ? for a Camera ?
well the friggin Zaurus (a great machine) had a CF slot and there wasn't a damned Camera card for it, not a good Video Out CF card either, no easy to purchase Data card also. At most you got was Wifi cards and then some BT cards. And that was for 3 f..ing years.
So don't even mention the fact "we will make it". Its easy to say that for software, but its not the same cake baking process when it comes to hardware - costs money, big money and needs a market.
Plus a CF slot would take up a hell of a lot of space. Much more than a built in camera.
No way a CF slot for me please.
Do a large number of people use the camera?
I think a modular approach like TexRat's suggestion would make a lot of sense. It would make the tablet smaller by default, and people could add whatever functionality they wanted (GPS, camera, FM radio, etc.) It would be an easy, flexible way to diversify the tablet hardware. And it could open up an entire market of 3rd-party hardware add-ons.

or pidgen, or whatever the hell it's called. I know nobody who's even heared of the program.
The camera is about as useful as a wing on a civic.
