Canola uses nothing of the sort. EFL in Canola is highly optimized for 16bpp and the tablets, it does not require 3d acceleration, and it doesn't really work all that well despite all of its optimization.

So, no, there's no equivalency here.

It is so funny reading GA's posts these days, imagining that happy, smiling face saying all those grouchy things

"They" is quite often "me", and I also don't know about Nokia's plans, unfortunately. Some internal developer teams already concentrate on Fremantle instead of Diablo it seems, some fixes are definitely too complex to backport, and for some fixes I have the feeling that people are afraid of the internal testing procedures that have to be passed first.

Well, whether Nokia provides an official port or not, it'll be a lot easier for the community to roll their own this time around than it was with the 770, as a lot more stuff is open these days (it's much easier to use a newer browser when you've actually got the source ). The open wifi driver, in particular, will make things much, much easier as it means we're not tied to a particular kernel version.

Mer + Fremantle versions of open-source Maemo stuff should be quite interesting.

We can only pray Karel does not follow suit.

It will certainly be one of the final signs of the apocalypse.

Hopefully another sign of the Apocalypse will be a man, riding on a white horse, giving us the N900.
