Also, on Diablo, libpurple is used by the built-in chat client through telepathy-haze, which is what is allowing me to add all those new protocols. I'm pretty sure Pidgin can also use the same files without an issue.

btw, i see that 2.6.1 is out now, supposedly with audio and video support for xmpp/google talk.
anyone care to see if that will work with the tablets?

I use 2.6.1 on n810
There is no FARSIGHT for n810
checking for GSTINTERFACES... no
checking for FARSIGHT... no
configure: error:
Dependencies for voice/video were not met.
Install the necessary gstreamer and farsight packages first.
Or use --disable-vv if you do not need voice/video support.
