FYI, the issue with a black screen and/or slow polling on Windows 7 is probably because of Aero. Vista & 7 both use Aero for accelerated desktop features or something; it makes vnc incredibly slow. Selecting a basic (non-Aero) theme on the desktop should make vnc much more useable.

I haven't got the N900 yet (I'll get it today) but I run VNCViewer on my N810. There's no problem connecting to my Vista machine with Aero, but then I don't use the inferior Windows Firewall. I haven't tried to connect to my Windows 7 machine yet, since I haven't moved anything much to that machine yet that I want to access. Single SSD drive, no good for storage.
One thing, though, that video of the N900: VNC seems MUCH smoother/more powerful than on N810.

Awesome I now have my VNC working 100% when I'm on the same network :-)
Now to get greedy :-)
How do I vnc into my home pc when I am not there?
I've looked at OpenVPN but it looks pretty complicated.
What do you guys do?

You'll need some sort of encryption anyway - OpenVPN is a little complex, you could also use ssh tunneling though. There should be plenty of online docs for setting up ssh tunneling with vnc.

I know I am ignorant but i have never set up a VNCViewer before, I am using a mac can anyone point me in the direction of a guide or briefly explain

Anyone get this to work with Ubuntu's built in remote desktop? I'm using 9.04 and when I connect with the n900's vncviewer it shows me the desktop, but the video of the vncviewer freezes in such a way that I can still click on things from the viewer and see the changes happen on my desktop screen, but nothing in the video of the vnc viewer changes. It's a very strange problem, anyone have some troubleshooting suggestions?
