ok finally I got my conversation history back. I don't know exactly
what was happing. Maybe it is because I got a sms-message just
after the update but before I tried to restore the conversations.
In the .rtcom-eventlogger directory were my backup.tgz, el.db (with old history)
and el-v1.db (with one new message).
To get my old conversation history back I had to remove (or move away) the el-v1.db
(but don't start the conversation app), restore from backup (this creates a new el-v1.db).
And now all conversations are back :-)

so then i tried this:
put phone in offline mode [if you don't it wont work]
copied my db i saved before my update
then i deleted the old 4 el "db" files to .rtcomm-eventlogger/
went to backup and only restored "communication and calendar" and unchecked the others
after reboot my old history was back
hope this helped

Hi - could you explain this bit to me again please? You refer to your db you saved before update - is that the el.db that is in rtcom-eventlogger? I moved that out to /home/user/...
I'm also unsure what you're deleting - the mv *.db* command surely acts the same as deleting the .db files by moving them out of their normal location?
Thanks in advance...
EDIT: The original method in this post turned out to work for me. I hadn't copied the el.db back before restoring the backup the first time. I've lost about 3 days of conversation although that's alright - think I only had about 5 messages which I can deal without!
Still curious about the second method!
