Try the apn solution in the wiki - it's not the solution I used: Frals has clearly found a better solution than the fiddly way of fixing it we used when fmms was new. If that fixes the apn problem, at least you'll know whether that's causing the overheating (which would cause the battery drain).
I find I can read some webpages but nothing else if I'm on the mms apn - what you can access varies according to provider and what they allow over WAP, I think.

Hi All,
I recently downloaded the MMS app using the application download manager. In addition to that I downloaded a few games and a KMplayer.
All of a sudden my battery is draining a lot faster than before. It lasts only for 4 hours or so. The phone gets really really hot. I have to keep switching it off and taking off the battery to cool it down.
type "top" in xterm and look at the percentage of cpu and mem used by the top processes and what they're called (process name is on the right), tell us here on this thread.
As for 2g/3g I swear by leaving my phone disconnected (from a data network point of view) and only gsm (2g) attached to the cellular network, I tend to only charge every other day now. But this won't help a 4hr drain.

Percentage usage of CPU= 235308k,(it keeps changing, of course)
the command or processes seem to be
/usr/bin/xorg -logf,
/usr/bin/hildon-destop,
/usr/bin/Xorg-debus,
/usr/sbin/associated.
Does this mean anything? Doesn't sound like processes names.

There is one bug with hildon-desktop that results in high use of the CPU. In the terminal try
the process will restart itself and should then largely disappear as a consumer of CPU. I write largely because yes, it will spike up on occasion but then disappear below 1%.
Using Catorise or MyMenu and perhaps ApMeFo can trigger the hildon-desktop bug. Perhaps you have one of these installed?
