1. open xterm
2. type rygel and press enter
you are done.
this initiates rygel which indexs the media on your phone and it takes some time.
After sometime, the device will become visible in the DLNA clients.
Rygel is NOT a GUI based application yet, so you will not see a popup or a notification or anything.

If you ran into the segmentation fault message you need to follow this step.
In Xterminal type the following commands.
sudo gainroot
apt-get remove --purge rygel
reboot
It will remove every components of rygel and then reboot your system.
Then back to app manager and reinstall it
After you've done so, to go Xterminal and reboot once more to be sure. After rebooted, type "rygel" without quotes and leave Xterminal open until you stop using DLNA. If you closed Xterminal, Rygel will stop working.
Hope this help.

I really should put my mediatomb binary in to the repositories. It's just the same, in that you start it and it just runs as a dlna server, bit it does have the advantage of having a webUI which you can use on the phone itself. I might have put a link to a dl of the binary in an ealier post. This definitely works with the ps3 at least.

Check Zhaan too...

I use both rygel+zhaan to control my tv and send files to ps3.

Installed Rygel using the details given at Rygel N900.
Indexing consuming 100% CPU for over 20 mins so i reduced media content on the N900.
Also set the commandline to "Rygel -t" to avoid having the N900 transcode.
Tried with a Ubuntu laptop and PS3.
Ubuntu laptop
- Able to view Songs using RhythmBox
- Not able to see videos using the default Ubuntu Media Player
PS3
- Able to see Audio on PS3
- Able to see video on PS3
- Able to see images on PS3
- Streaming is quite slow. I have no problems streaming from my laptop, by N900 seems to stutter too often
