On Ebay I just bought a black logitech playgear case for about 11 bucks with shipping- (Hong Kong)

...should be a nice simple hack.

Thanks. I've got Gizmo and it works fine - I guess I can use that. As for updating it while in Europe, I'm going to be on the road and not near a PC where I can download and do the update. I don't suppose there's a way to self-update an N800?

Why don't you take a linuxlive- cd with you, then you can go to a shop where they make cd's from your digicam and ask politely to use their pc for a while... just boot a live system, dl the bin to your mmc - or use their hdd - and you should have everything you need. Try small shops where the owner is there, or go to an internet cafe.

I suppose Skype can be installed as separate app once it is out, but then I am an ignorant fool

if Skype's all you need, that is. For that all u need is WiFi access point.

If you are in Amsterdam, you can just update at my place.

Hmm I just talked couple of days ago to one person inside Nokia and it was said that new release is scheduled for week 26. And yes Skype was mentioned. So lets see what happens.
