The guy at the swap meet will give you a factory-fresh unit with a full warrantee? You have some amazing swap meets there...

Yes, factory fresh is especially important. How long does it take before an N900 goes rotten?

Apparently, it doesn't necessarily take very long:

There are almost certainly security holes in the version of Flash included on the N900. There have been several security fix updates to the desktop Flash since the N900 came out, so unless those fixes were backported and included in the PR updates*, it is likely those vulnerabilities still exist in the version we have, and even if they have been fixed silently, Flash is still a piece of garbage security-wise so there are likely more to be discovered..

None of which is special to Maemo or linux. Flash is dangerous for all platforms. So it's hardly a knock against the N900.
But point taken.
Still, this is all assumption isn't it, since the OP has never actually explained what he was insinuating?

Be very afraid. GM, following Nokia's lead, is also no longer selling 2010 Chevrolet models even though they were just released last September. GM owners are insisting that they receive the new 2011 Chevrolet at half price because they never updated the 2010 model.

Yes Flash is dangerous for all platforms, it is always best using a flash blocker where you have it installed so you don't automatically run every flash applet you run across, you never know what unpatched exploits the black hats may know about even for an up-to-date flash plugin.
And yes it is (at least on my part) assumption, but I feel they are valid. Though the OP did take it a bit far by implying attackers will be overseeing their exploits and manually controlling it, this is quite unlikely.
