maybe it's because the hardware Nokia N900 is not enough to bring ics 4.0.4 version longer in the system, but by the end only capable of nokia N900 system just in version 4.0.3 ics, need more hardware to make this things work with higher version of nitdroid .
alex you can continue to finish your project of ics 4.0.3 just like gingerbread 2.3.7 and the other version with a little bugs of voice call but the other works well ,
if i could learn how to make it,i can help a little
and.. what program you have use to make nitdroid?
SDK,VB, or Java?

all things working in 2.3.7 worked in ics
