Yup. Surely there are people who know how many N900s were sold. That was your question, right?

"Does anyone know..." was your question. Yes, someone knows. They work for Nokia.

Nokia haven't made the sales figures public; and haven't told the Council either (in what way is it relevant to Nokia/community collaboration? ;-))

As far as I know, Nokia have not repeated what they did for PR1.1 with community testing. Now, as you know when that was announced, was that discretion was requested :-)

However, no, I'm not running PR1.2 (RC, leaked, beta or otherwise).

Equally as much as former council members.

Whether or not maemo.org "transitions" or "merges" with meego.com is an important issue. How do we begin a referendum on that issue? (I searched but can't find the wiki page with the process details.)

You can't have a referendum without a proposal. Are you suggesting that we put to a vote that maemo.org gets turned off and everyone's account moved to meego.com? I somehow doubt it.

The point about the uncertainty is that it's being hinted (or even explicitly said by Quim) that most people will be running something MeeGoey. That may mean that a large majority of the core of this community may start spending more time at meego.com. A referendum couldn't stop that ("we want meego.com to reject members who have maemo.org accounts" ;-)).

If that gets so prevalent that no-one's using maemo.org, it'll die a natural death. If lots of people are still using it and there's still a vibrant Maemo community, it'll live.

It has already been explicitly ruled out that maemo.org would move wholesale to meego.com. For example, during the creation of forum.meego.com it was discussed whether or not it was a different front-end to (parts of) talk.maemo.org.

Hi,

Not a council member, but still, answering the question(s):
  • The process for requesting a referendum is here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_Coun...ection_process It's unclear how the process gets kicked off, but the short story is:

Changes to any of the above rules must be approved by community referendum.
    1. Voting in such referenda will be open to anyone eligible to vote in the council elections.
    2. The referendum options must be debated for a minimum of 1 month prior to the referendum.
    3. Referendum voting will be open for the same length of time as the council elections.

To request a referendum, make a proposal to the council for a referendum topic.
  • Whether an individual "merges" with meego (by becoming more active there, and less active here) is an individual choice. As fewer people are active here, interest in Mer, Maemo and the forums will decrease, and more people will "merge". If no-one moves, then Meego will have been a failure from the point of view of providing Maemo community members with a compelling alternative to contribute to. It makes, in my opinion, no sense to vote on this issue.

Dave.
