Nokia have never told the truth about their intentions and why the N900 exsists, if it was meant to be a community project then all i can say is what a complete and utter balls up !!.

Someone is lieing here and the so called Meego proves it because it is no way fair that Nokia give us Maemo , ditch it then promise us Meego... ditch that too and leave everyone in the balance swearing and cursing.

How can this community function at all when lets face it, it cannot even get MMS right after more than a year has passed ! it is a balls up from start to now and we are no where near done yet !.

You lot are stir crazy if you think this Elop was brought in to kill Nokia, never read such rubbish in my life.

While we have been arguing swearing about the events leading us to date, hardware has moved on leaving the N900 a dated mobile that would have to have any OS in the future downgraded because of dated hardware.

Who are we kidding ? it is a complete ballsup from Nokia and now they must be so embarresed it is unreal.

I dont see this mess going anywhere but into an even bigger mess if thats possible than what we got right now.

Quim poor devil does not know where to look with pure embarresment and shock at his own companies actions !!, he promised us this and that and look how Nokia dealt with it all.
I got to say ... my heart goes out to that poor guy.

Oh well another fine mess you got us into.

Dude, you gotta recalibrate your perception.
on an other hand n8 was already pretty impressive as symbian device and it got announced the best support ever in nokia devices (which is not valid anymore)

you must understand that the reality struck to nokia probably in 2008-2009 and they reacted, N97, inefficiency in R&D etc was something that has been reacted against as soon as the reality struck and people decided measures to deal with the problems...

I'd understand your point if N8 and E7 would have been just like N97. Regaining market share after crappy products take time....

Here is couple of places for letting Nokia know how you feel abou this deal:

Contact page for Nokia board of directors

http://www.nokia.com/about-nokia/cor...tact-the-board

Nokia Conversations (several threads, LOTS of unhappy comments there, entertaining reading):

"Ask Steve and Stephen" (almost 900 comments, not the questions Nokia wanted though):
http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/...e-and-stephen/

See what "double Steve" were then "asked" (and the following commentary):
http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/...tions-readers/

and
"Five reasons to get excited about a Microsoft partnership":
http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/...t-partnership/

What a PR nightmare!

Moreover, I had the impression that the 'step 5' that was envisioned a few years before was still not competitive enough with the competitors' offerings.

It's a moving target, Nokia wasn't fast enough.
Well, obviously they wouldn't go on promoting the N900 with the "in your face" attitude. The beta status was implied and I just gave two obvious signs even though there are more just like you said. If they did say it was a beta phone, I don't think there would be any stores selling them. Anyhow, the N900 did sell quite a lot with no marketing whatsoever. I do see more and more N900s around me by the day.

Step 5, we won't know it's status soon. And by what we have on offer with step 4, I would love to know what 5 is and I can bet it would have been awesome.

That is exactly the attitude Elop saw at Nokia and went with MS. Blind fanboys that can see beyond their antique Symbian OS. My N8 is sitting in the glove compartment of my car. Elop did the right thing. Nokia had plenty of time prior to Elop to get it right.

Fanboyism??? From whom? You or me? Antique or not it's BETTER than WP7, end of story. A modern OS that can't multitask, is battery inefficient, no USB OTG, single format video player, no widgets, weak sales, etc. Oh yeah it is good to have WP7. Get your head out of your *** you brainwashed kid.

EDIT: WP7 doesn't work on non touch phones and Nokia has a huge demand for those. Nothing beats S60v3.
