Here we go!

The Eee transformer immediately sells out at Amazon!

It pays to know what your audience wants. Way to go Asus!

LG has licensed the design for ARMs's Cortex A15 w/ the insanely powerful Mali-T604 GPU.

This chip will rival notebook CPU/GPUs.

The kicker? We should see products featuring this SoC about this time next year. But who will buy LG SoCs (besides LG)?

If Nvidia can get Tegra products out by early summer, then they are shrinking the gap to being one-generation ahead of the competition. Right now, they have a slight release lead, but get humbled by the competition months after release with more powerful SoCs.

I went to Amazon way before 1 a.m. Pacific time and they were apparently already sold out and I had been checking before 12 and there was no sign they were for sale. This actually feels like one of those rock concerts that sells out so fast it's obvious that only scalpers got tickets.

I preordered anyway because I need a laptop now -- err, make that tablet now. But I may cancel on the contrarian theory that that much of a stampede is an ill omen.

It seems that Motorola is experiencing difficulties in getting people to buy the XOOM:

With a price of $800 for a system worth ~$250 in parts, it's not at all surprising.

It's going to be tougher sell still with a more competent Asus Transformer staring down at it for half the price.

I've chosen to restrict SoC discussion to the Mobile System On Chip thread, as it seems better fitting than this general discussion of Android. Of course, when it does concern Android (ie. actual device, or benchmark) I will certainly post here!

Android isn't just the most successful mobile OS, trends suggest that it's currently also the most desired OS:

Given the available choices, I would certainly vote on the side of Android.

Here's a neat article on tips to maximize battery life:

These types of things should be made default in shipped devices, based on the device power consumption characteristics... But that's probably asking too much

The Android Market has been upgraded to let developers track sales statistics:

This is actually pretty major for developers looking for details on how to make their wares more desirable...

Hot on the tails of Gingerbread 2.3.3 is... wait for it... Gingerbread 2.3.4!

And it is rumored to have fully functional video-calling:

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/04/and...video-calling/

It seems as if Gingerbread is absorbing features from Honeycomb, as it seems that while the UI will be different, apps will be interchangeable.
