The reviewer mentions that:
- the reviewer owns an iPad and mentions it ocassionally
- the reviewer likes the form factor and can imagine it as a commute-friendly device.
- the reviewer enjoys the e-reading experience (especially with the flippy pagey animation).
- the reviewer likes that he can get at files on the Android system
- the reviewer likes watching video on the device.

The review was generally positive albeit light on information!
Strange. Cannot see a link in your post but when I do quote and reply a link shows up.

Sorry about that! When I originally posted it, I forgot to insert the link. I quickly edited the message to include the link, but you must have seen it right after I posted and before the edit!

It's there now, though.

I don't know if I posted this, but it's a very good preview of the Galaxy Tab:

UPDATE: users confirm that Engadget deleted a whack of posts criticizing them for centering the article about the new ad around a guy placing the Tab in his pocket (literally 1 second of footage in a long commercial):

Lol it is incredible the extent to which Engadget goes to support Apple and knock down others.

A rarely discussed out-of-the-box talent of the Tab (and many more mobile devices with the correct software) is DLNA.

For those that don't know, DLNA is a standard by which to very easily stream media between devices on a home network (eg. WiFi). Many people that have consoles like Playstation 3, have experience with DLNA as they can look through their server's media via an on-screen interface, and play it directly on the big screen, without manually pushing around files or moving physical storage.

But DLNA goes far deeper than that.

The PS3 is what's called a DMP or Digital Media Player. The job of the DMP is just as it sounds: it plays content from a DMS -- Digital Media Server.

But there are two other DLNA mechanisms worth mentioning. These are the DMR and the DMC. The DMR is a Digital Media Renderer, and the DMC is a Digital Media Controller.. With me so far?

The DMR can play media, but it has another talent: it can be controlled by a DMC! This means that the DMC is a remote control that can control the content that comes out of the DMR!

But the DMC can do more than just control the DMR. It is a coordinator of sorts and can have content residing on a remote DMS (server) played on a remote DMR! I would imagine that in the case of a handset, a DMC can also push it's own content to a DMR.

This takes the pain out of sharing media on a home network, and puts it in an idiot-proof package. Though it may seem confusing, wielding it would be as simple as selecting the thing you want to play your media, and selecting the media that you want to play on it, from a user-friendly application on your Android handset. Any DLNA compliant stereo, TV, computer, digital photo-frame, or home theater, can be controlled right from your DLNA device! As it turns out, there are MANY DLNA compatible devices and lots of software for custom setups.

Samsung includes AllShare as part of its application suite for the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab, in fact it's a major selling feature. I'm not sure if AllShare is a DMS or a DMC, but I would guess it would be the latter. Needless to say, that DLNA is an extremely powerful feature and a welcome bonus to an already stunning device.

I'm excited by this functionality. To think that me and my GF can effortlessly select movies from my TAB and watch them directly on the big screen is an exciting prospect. Even more exciting is putting on some music over my home stereo, using only the device, and with a slick interface!

DLNA also allows for easily sharing files (upload/download) and has facilities for printing documents. However I'm not sure if these features are supported on the Tab.

If anyone has more info on AllShare I would be interested to know more. Other than that, I'll do more research and come up with more information!

Update: I've read in a forum that a user has pushed data from his Captivate (Galaxy S) to a compliant TV. The TV automatically started playing back the content!
http://androidforums.com/samsung-cap...ml#post1230330

If true, this confirms that the Galaxy S (and likely the Tab by implication) should act as a DMC! This is A HUGE selling feature, and I'm glad that it's included in this already amazing (looking) product!

Though it's not without incident. It is codec dependent, so certain files may not work -- I would imagine that this depends on the DMR.

Man you really have researched this and thnks to the treasute trove of info from you on the Tab. It does seem increasingly attractive to me - albeit as a wifi only option. I would love the scenario you just painted.
But then again most companies seem to not provide all power features in one package and thus try upselling the next iteration of devices ( reminds me of the fruit company). Hope Samsung really makes this a super device interms of completeness of features.

But Samsung should give a free Tab just for being a most enthusiastic spokesman :-)

Thanks man. I enjoy doing it, and I hope that other enjoy reading. It's like a process of discovery which is quite fun!

The benefit of DLNA is that it's a standard outside of Samsung, so there's no real danger of Samsung gimping the service or obsoleting older implementations. Thankfully there are many more DLNA compatible device (thousands) and software for most consumer OSs, so compatibility isn't really an issue.

As an aside:
It's odd that Apple would try to push its own technology, AirPlay, in wake of the widely available DLNA technology. I suspect AirPlay is quite seamless in execution, but limits users to Apple-only products for the time being.

Here's a great how-to video on Samsung.com which shows AllShare (Samsung's DLNA implementation) in action on the ATT Fascinate (Galaxy S):
http://www.samsungsupport.com/spstv/...cheduleId=2734

It's really a seamless experience and quite simple to use! Not only is the content coming from the phone, but the phone can play/pause/seek in the media and the resulting video/audio is output to the TV! This ads a great deal of out-of-the-box value to the Galaxy Tab. The Tab now acts as a very user friendly remote streaming system! Wow!

It remains to be seen if you can use AllShare on the S/Tab to (for example) stream content from a media server to a TV, in other words, it remains to be seen if the S/Tab can act as a coordinator.

Still, this is a wonderful feature, and a welcome bonus that I hadn't considered.
