Another app gets the Honeycomb treatment:

http://www.androidcentral.com/taptu-...b-optimization

Expect a tidal wave soon, wherein thousands of apps will be upgraded to run on larger screens.

The single-binary run anywhere strategy is a damned good one -- say what you will about Java. Google IO features a lecture on Google TV and Android apps, which makes sense thanks to the new Honeycomb APIs leveraging the higher screen, and the proliferation of SoCs that can handle the increased res. Android apps on Google TV will make a seriously compelling platform for video, games, and even light productivity.

But why stop there? There is also the possibility to include android APK support in the upcoming Chrome OS by way of NaCL, or even in distributions that will have them (eg. Ubuntu). Certainly RIM's QNX can't be the only system to cash in on this platform agnosticism.

Interesting times ahead.

EDIT: This is not the Galaxy S II ! (Thanks Bratag)

Here is the latest from the NYC Samsung/ATT Galaxy event:

http://www.androidcentral.com/samsun...on-angry-birds

It's quite a big post, so feel free to link to the page.. Or ignore this altogether

Key bits of data:
- The ATT version is known as the Infuse 4G
- It comes with Android 2.2 Froyo
- It hits in 10 days (May 15th, 2011)
- $199 on 2-year contract
- It's 8.99mm at its thinnest (thicker than the non-4G SII)
- it will come with a special edition of Angry Birds.

Instant pass. How a company can gimp something up so tragically by including the now incredibly old Froyo is beyond me.

You've been warned.

What a big day for news!

Gameloft is bringing another 8 titles to Android!
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog...es-to-android/
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sHhy9ybGUc

Here is the list
  • Dungeon Hunter II (like diablo)
  • Eternal Legacy (RPG -- like final fantasy)
  • The Settlers (real time strategy)
  • Shadow Guardian (like uncharted? -- great graphics)
  • Sacred Odyssey (fantasy hack/slash)
  • Star Front Collision (like starcraft)
  • NOVA 2 (first person shooter)
  • Fast Five (racer based on movie)

These games look AWESOME. It's nice to see Android getting some gaming love.

I'd be interested to see these on Tablets and especially on Google TV. Android on Google TV is a compelling reason for me to consider it -- and I don't watch TV at all. However, streaming content, playing games and surfing the web easily and without a make-shift DIY setup is really sounding much more enticing...

Samsung Infuse 4G -- that's the monster 4.5-inch Android smartphone
Begin sarcasm:-
Isn’t this too big for a phone yet too small for a tablet?
You would look silly holding an Infuse 4G to your ear.
End sarcasm

Girl: Is that an Infuse in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
Me: I'm just happy to see you.

Apparently, it's BOTH an LCD screen tablet on one side and an eInk reader on the other side... with RESISTIVE touchscreen (I think on both sides?) and comes with a stylus.. AND it has a front-facing camera... AND it has both a HOST mode USB port as well as device mode mini-USB port.

CRAZY! Only $149.99 today at Woot (they're a one-day sale store), so if you're interested you only have today to buy it.

The cons, as I see it... it runs Android 1.6 (DONUT!) and, although my research shows that it's pretty easy to root and that the source code for the kernel has been released, nobody seems to have done anything with it so far as far as ROMs like CyanogenMod. Shame--this looks like it would have EASILY knocked the Nook Color off as the cheapest decent Android tablet out there if it had more of a fanbase supporting it with ROMs.
I'm kind of sorry I didn't buy this, now that I returned the Transformer. The two screens seem like a dream for notetaking. I unfortunately couldn't afford the $150 during the Woot! sale till my Transformer money is returned. I am also tempted by the larger version of the Entourage.

Right now, I am pretty much using my N900 as a laptop substitute and have been for a few months. It isn't completely satisfactory, but it isn't that bad, either.

I would be very leery about note taking on a resistive screen of this size, but sometimes people need to experience something to realize why it may not be such a hot idea.

That and the build seems to leave something to be desired.

It seems that 129 of the 132 patent violation disputes by Oracle against Google for Android infringement have been thrown out.

http://www.androidcentral.com/judge-...ucing-number-3

This leaves three to be decided upon. It seems that Android is not out of the woods just yet.

As the article states: Tim bray says it best.

I know nothing of the law.

It seems that the Sprint/Google-voice tie in is not all rose-buds and kittens:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/s...-major-lack-o/

Voip will eventually be the de-facto way to communicate voice, but this is somewhat disconcerting in the short-run...

I'm taking extensive notes on the N900 so I have some experience taking notes on a small resistive screen.

The build was updated from that mentioned, according to the info I saw.
