Here's one more mirror for the N810 image:

http://www.abailard.com/Nokia/N810_OS2008_OFFICIAL.zip

Sorry, I would have had it up sooner, but sometimes I actually sleep at night. Thanks to Texrat for forwarding over a copy.

Very impressive, texrat.... Since you dropped the N810 images on my webserver, I saw over 80 hits nearly immediately and had over 7GB transferred by the end of the day.

Lathe of Dreams is a Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 server hosted by Bluehost.com off several OC-3, and limits me to 300GB/mo transfer. If Nokia image downloads come close to that limit, I might move it to one of my other servers. Unlike Windows IIS servers, Apache/Tomcat under RHEL is very case-dependant, as you noticed.

Several other sub-domains are hosted off that same server, so I'll need to monitor. KenForemansHouse.com is a static IP on Verizon FiOS (symmetric 30Mbps down/30Mbps up) routed to a SunBlade 1000 running Solaris 10. I may open up http (80, 8080, 443) on several servers (Dell PowerEdge, Apple PowerMac G5, SunBlade) if we need more capacity.

I have servers off T-3 and OC-3 in northern Virginia as well, but I'd get in trouble if I touch their capacity.

If I saw over 7GB in an afternoon, I can only imagine how badly pounded tablets-dev.nokia.com was?

If anyone at Akamai or Rackspace is lurking among us and won't get in trouble for a mirror, we could (and Nokia) could certainly use it.

I'm sure Bluehost, Rackspace, Savvis and the slew of hosting providers are "appreciating" private individuals hosting the Nokia image files. If anyone else has bandwidth caps on their servers, you might want to keep an eye. At 134MB/download, several hundred hits will drive you up fast.

Akamai offered to mirror four servers, two databases, and about 320GB of dynamic material for us on a server cluster that gets over 30,000 hits/day. Having seen the dollar values on mirroring, hosting, and bandwidth, it certainly got my attention (we didn't go with Akamai).

Even in the age of MySpace, Facebook, and "vanity webservers", hosting and bandwidth can add up fast.

Yeah, since I posted the N800 images yesterday, I've seen 83 visits and over 5.2gig in transfers. Not bad for word of mouth.

Any torrents for the N810 image? I don't own an N810, but I'd be happy to download and seed...

I'm pretty sure promethh meant "N810 images", since that's what I gave him-- so let the torrents begin!

*eep*, sorry, was typing that quickly this morning... at the moment, I'm having a couple of other domains being hit hard by ssh and telnet traffic, so I was trying (semi-poorly) to multitask.

Yes, I meant N810, not N800. I edited the post just now to reflect that. Sorry for the confusion.

In theory, tablets-dev.nokia.com should paddle through this easily, as requests (at least http requests) to that host are *supposed* to be resolved by Akamai's global content delivery service, not directly from Nokia.

Code:
# from the west coast of NA
% ping tablets-dev.nokia.com
PING a1341.g.akamai.net (80.67.74.128): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 80.67.74.128: icmp_seq=0 ttl=58 time=33.386 ms

% curl -I tablets-dev.nokia.com
HTTP/1.1 504 Gateway Time-out
Server: AkamaiGHost
Mime-Version: 1.0

# And now from the east coast of NA
% ping tablets-dev.nokia.com
PING a1341.g.akamai.net (77.67.111.200): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 77.67.111.200: icmp_seq=0 ttl=59 time=69.867 ms

% curl -I tablets-dev.nokia.com
HTTP/1.1 504 Gateway Time-out
In this context, a Gateway timeout almost certainly points the finger back at NOKIA; either connectivity was insufficient to seed Akamai's network, let alone the user community, or NOKIA has muffed up cache-control and any other requirements made of it by Akamai.

From Requirements for Surrogates in the HTTP, proposed to the IETF and written by an Akamai employee, we can see what Akamai means by 504 Gateway time-out:

A 504 Gateway Timeout response SHOULD be sent under any of the
following conditions:
o DNS failure when resolving the origin server
o no route to origin server
o refused connection to origin server
o connection timeout to origin server

Unless proven otherwise, the finger has to point towards NOKIA; global delivery of content is Akamai's primary, bread-winning, business - its reasonable to assume they know what they are doing in this regard.

N810 Firmware Update Available!!

My hubby has put up a compressed (bz2) image. If you don't know how to uncompress it, don't bother downloading it, look elsewhere. This will only be up for 24-48 hours...
