Red Pill mode! Thanks. I knew I was forgetting something!

Are you able to confirm if Application Manager and Diablo's automatic updates will function as normal after install and reverting back to Blue Pill mode? (Assuming one avoids messing about with apt-get too!)

This just keeps getting better, I have a the WiMAX Edition and apparently you can't re-flash as of yet :-\ (http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=24906)

I got the RTComm Beta 0.7 installed and working great. But it still showed a "network error" for MSN. I installed the above fixes and it got MSN working. YEA!!!! It worked for only a day or so. I went to another network and it started showing "network error" again. Even when I went back home to my network same thing. Everything else is working fine. yahoo, Sip, gtalk. Anything else I could try? (I do have the nickname filled in).

i followed what deadmalc said and now i have msn working. This works for chinook and diablo. It's easy, just create a msn transport in your jabber account. There are many jabber servers out there (check http://www.jabberes.org/servers/ if you would like to try someone) I used jabber-hispano.org because you can configure a new jabber account from its web, and it supports avatars and you don't need to install psi, epiphany or any other stuff to do the job..
Here are the steps just in case someone else want to do it right away

1.register a new jabber account in http://jabber-hispano.org/registro/ fill the desired username and type two times the password you want
2.go to http://jabber-hispano.org/reg-transportes/ and log-in with the jabber username&pass just created
3.in msn transport fill in the username & password of your msn account.
4.Now we need to authorize all your contacts.I don't know if you can do so from the rtcomm ui. Si i used pidgin for that: add a xmpp account. for the jabber account foo@jabber-hispano.org fill in in pidgin
username: foo
domain: jabber-hispano.org
resource: tablet,home.. whatever you feel like..
password: <your passwd>
(please somebody tell us if you can authorize/add contacts from the rtcomm interface)
5.add the jabber account in your rtcomm tablet , go control panel->accounts->new->jabber.. etc

if you have several msn accounts you'll have to repeat the procedure and create another jabber account.. but remember you can use up to four different transports for each jabber account: (msn, icq, aim, yahoo)

good things:
with telepathy-haze sending your avatar didn't work, now it does.
you don't need to install the rtcomm update as long as you use OS2008 (either chinook or diablo). Rtcomm support for jabber/SIP/gtalk is included by default
bad part:
you relay on an external server to connect to msn

BTW if you find another jabber server supporting avatars, with a easy way to register/add transport from the web feel free to post which one it is

UPDATE 27-Mar-09:

Doing the update again on a fresh install (no Chinook repositories this time, and I put the RTComm Beta Installer 0.7 in my repo)...

Link-Local worked fine, ICQ did too, MSN was broken. Checked and it had installed libpurple0 2.5.1 (the current Pidgin version). "downgraded" to my hacked version and everything came online just fine.

Woot.

UPDATE 13-Mar-09:

I've changed the repository to add to my repository, rather than Chinook extras, because I have a libpurple0 that works with the new ICQ protocol. I also have the working chinook avahi libraries.

ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS:

I had to reflash my tablet (again!) this weekend, so I had a chance to reinstall the RTComm beta again, too. At this point, ICQ, MSN, and Link-Local have problems working if you just install RTComm Beta. It still requires a bit of extra work to get all of the account types working, but it works for me, and I've had to do it a few times.

I would recommend bookmarking this post on the tablet and using it to install. Cut-and-paste is a lot easier than re-typing stuff from a screen, especially step #10.

These instructions are for an up-to-date Diablo install:
  1. Go into Application Manager
  2. Tools -> Application Catalogue
  3. Add
    Qole's repository:
    Web address: http://qole.org/repository
    Distribution: maemo
    Components: main
  4. Close. Application Manager will update.
  5. Open Catalogues again, this time go into Red Pill mode by pressing New, putting matrix into the Web address, then hitting Cancel. Choose Red Pill.
  6. Install rtcomm-beta-installer-os2008 from your list of installable applications. Leave the Application manager open.
  7. Choose the new menu item, Extras / Rtcom Beta Installer, and let it install.
  8. Go back to 'Blue Pill' mode by repeating the Red Pill instructions but choose Blue Pill this time.
  9. Open a terminal. Get root.
  10. Downgrade your link local libraries and ensure you have my hacked libpurple0 by doing the following:
    Code:
    apt-get install libpurple0=2.5.0.qole
    .
    .
  11. Answer yes to all the questions. Wait for it to install.
These instructions will give you the full list of account types (including the very cool 'link local'), and they all work well on my tablet.
