When upgrading, did you make sure that the existing TOR service shutdown? This will occur on reboot or just go offline for a minute or so and then come back online (in theory, I do this one but I know that some corner cases could require a little more work to get this to take effect).

Ok, some generic questions just to see if something random pops up. How reproducible is this? always? sometimes?

I doubt it will show much helpful information but mind sending me some logs?

I've just tried reproducing this myself. With both Skype and SIP (sipgate) on my n900 I did not have issues. The call came in. I might tweak it to have a longer timeout to validate that hold is working correctly. I did get "General Error" a couple of times when making the outbound cal which is a reported issue.

With an increased timeout I did get a reproduction. I'll look into why hold isn't working. Fun

EDIT: Bah humbug, I forgot to update to 0.8.3. Looks like the auto-builder had an issue with it.

EDIT: Tried again with 0.8.3-1 and still not working. *sigh* I'm dropping the timeout, hold isn't working for some reason (It might not think I have anything to put on hold)

As a side note, epage: whatever you did in 0.8.3 to fix network errors seems to have worked at least in the following scenario:
1. get into network error state
2. disable tor
3. upgrade to 0.8.3
4. re-enable tor. before the latest release this would not make any difference.

With this release, TOR is working again. The real test of course is when I rapidly switch between my wifi access points, but I'm already expecting success right now.

Will post more results soon.

epage, we have a problem:
today morning when I wanted to call a friend, went into contacts, show by group -> google voice, instead of showing names, it showed all the phone numbers.

Workaround: disable TOR, then re-enable it. Now all contacts should have names.

Also: general errors when calling people.
Workaround: try try again.

Since so many of you have fallen in love with the error on changing networks, I thought you might appreciate knowing the this has also been reported on Skype. I've added my notes to the bug to hopefully get a better larger picture solution than my hack.

I've been following both and I've been bitten by both. You might be the first to actually make some headway on either! Keep up the great work Ed!

I'm uploading 0.8.4 to the auto-builder. This build has potential for breakage and I do not recommend upgrading

0.8.4
  • Reduced time allowed for disconnect due to RTComm not putting TOR on hold, causing miss of callback
  • Doubled the timed disconnects time
  • Cleaning up things to better match the latest Empathy
  • Bugfix: Random "General Error"s when making a call

I only suspect "General Error" is fixed. According to a Nokia employee, this might not only fix it but reduce chatter which is always a good thing.

I just upgraded to this new build and I no longer miss the SIP callback! Outgoing Google Voice calls work again.

Great job!

Ok, no immediate issues seen. Please let me know if you still get any General Errors so I can send the fix upstream to telepathy-python.
