so, yes, looks like its the well know consumer device very few people here will buy...
Yes... veeeeeery few people...

I will. The only thing I'm wondering about is which of my current devices it will replace... the N8 or the N900... or both or none of them?

define announced, I already know that a few outside devs already have the device, probably some reading this thread..
You'll probably see it in demos but its not going to get much air time other than to demonstrate Harmattan on, why would they need to give it a big splash its only for DEvs not consumers.

Some officially clarified statement regarding its specs, its availability through developers channels or unavailability to anyone except Nokia inner developers, etc. Didn't see any official statements so far. If there are none coming (statements), then the assumption that it would be announced fist is wrong.

well this is not strictly for geek people. trying for mass appeal. well facebook , twitter , im comms all accessible from single panel. nice google integration too. understand what i mean ? cant go more specific due to obvious reasons.

My logic tells that Nokia would want to announce the consumer ready device first, or at the same time as dev device so they can make big splash showing the UI on a device meant for you, end user.

Then my logic also tells that it would make sense to release the dev device before consumer device, but then if the difference between the two is about weeks it wont make much difference.

"Releasing" two devices but only selling one happened before at Nokia. There was a developer device based on the N900, probably you haven't seen it. This was never intended for sale. It had an ugly (but functional) casing.

The only difference this time is that the developer device originally was planned to go on sales. This plan was changed back in October 2010. Since then it was used internally as developer device. But as there were already a lot of produced devices they decided to give them to developers in a community/developer device program. This program should start before the announcement of the consumer device.

So to sum up (I'm sure you've problems to read everything..):
Two devices released (as in given out from Nokia) but only one device goes on sales.

Have a nice day.
WTF...That is insane! I want that other device with keyboard. Nokia: "Let's release the device that noone wants so we dont need to sell so many and our stock value can hit 0 faster". Elop can keep the **** in his pocket!

Devices without sliding qwerty sell in much larger volume, Good move by Nokia imo.

IMO make sense to launch both of them. Soft launch for the dev/ hw kb ones in small amounts just to get rid of them and Hard launch for the masses with the kb less one. Make everyone happy and make the most money and not let errr 92,000 dev devices to waste lol *sorry had to poke fun at the numbers at least once*
