Hi Frals, first of all you are a legend and Nokia need to get their wallets out in my opinion!

I have investigated every post and looked for any videos or advice on Google & Youtube but the latest video or advice tells me install fapn etc, which 1.1.4 says is unnecessary and I have uncovered no answers, so here goes!

I have uninstalled fapn and my previous version of fmms (1.1.1) and installed the latest version of fmms 1.1.4 only.

It worked fine previously, but when i got a message to alert me to a new mms message waiting to be downloaded, I had to manually switch to the Vodafone MMS apn that I set up using fapn. This was fine but it also automatically connected to the Vodafone MMS connection instead of my Internet one in everyday use, which was very annoying.

I tried the advice that you gave: If the device is auto connecting to the MMS APN instead of the regular internet one automatically; runing:
/opt/fmms/fmms_config.py
in the terminal should correct this - please verify by checking in "Internet Connections" as well as edit the access point to make sure all settings got changed.
but this did not work and it still connected to the Vodafone MMS apn. This is what prompted me to go for the newer version and was very pleased that you had updated!

As far as I understand it all I now needed to do is download the latest fMMS (vers 1.1.4) and it will automatically set up the APN. It didn't so I set about going into the settings in fMMS and manually entering them. This was fairly simple (using these settings http://wiki.maemo.org/MMS#Vodafone_UK) but the "Your Phone Number" field is now gone. Is this right?!

Anyway I have installed fMMS (vers 1.1.4) put in all correct settings in all of the fields that are now available:

Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
User Name: wap
Password: user
HTTP Proxy: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 8799

It now doesn't work.

Can you help me, am I missing something?!

Cheers

Dan

edit: also the details and instructions on the MMS wiki are not for the latest version and I cannot find a comprehensive guide for version 1.1.4 anywhere for love no money. Is there anyway you could you please do this, downloading the application is great but setting it up properly and actually using it would be awesome! Thanks again

Hi frals
I found the temporary solution for sending MMS with right-to-left text and other phones CAN receive this messages
I need put only one letter in english language in the head of the text, and after this I can write in hebrew and other phone can receive this...

After you got it 100% working with no or little issues will it be possible to contact Nokia and ask them to integrate it to PR 1.3? since all the hard work has been done by you ( for which we all grateful) how difficult could that be to just add it as a part of package in conversions app ?
I find it highly unlikely as that would mean Nokia having responsibility of support/problems etc, I think having it in Maemo Extras is enough as everyone can download it from there (as extras repo is enabled by default on all devices from PR1.1(?))

Regarding adding it to conversations its not something I'm going to do as it's too much work from what I've gathered, and not sure how attachments etc are handled there, if at all.

First thing to check would be?
I checked my APN settings and it looks correct.
Make sure you upgrade to 1.1.4 (if you are not using 1.0.3) as this fixes what is most likely the problem for you.

Upgrade to 1.1.4 (if using 1.0.4 or above) and attach the log if it's still not working, thanks!

I use the latest version of fMMS(v1.1.4), when I sent MMS with multibyte characters(like CJK characters) in message title, it can't be received or opened.

but if i sent a MMS with single-byte character in message title and multi-byte characters in message body, it CAN be received and opened correctly.

Question 2: Can the text in message body be aligned left?

it seems all the text in MMS body is aligned center, is it passible to render the text to be aligned left? or give us a text render configure option.

thanks a lot.
Q1: Uh, interesting, nice to see you found a work around - I'll do some digging when I have timne

Q2: In viewer or sender or both?

Regarding the autoconnect issues with the phone picking the MMS instead of normal one it's out of my control by the looks of it, one workaround is to use Havoc mode as this hides the MMS connection from the system.

When uninstalling and removing the old access point used by fMMS manually with fAPN there is a high risk that fMMS will still try to use that connection after reinstalling as this settings persists even after uninstall; to clear all fMMS related settings you should write the following command in X-Terminal:
gconftool-2 -R /apps/fmms
and then reinstall fMMS.

I'm sorry but keeping a huge wikipage like that up to date is not something I have time to do, I try to update the beginning of it when I have time but I have to ask and hope everyone who uses the application can update it when they see something wrong there (after all, that's why its a wiki page).

Thanks everyone for nice words, suggestions and for using fMMS (and the donation )!

thanks for the response!

i have two questions:

1) after deinstalling fmms and getting rid of the connection point with fapn my problem was solved (well except that i couldnt send/receive mms anymore . are you saying that reinstalling fmms after entering that command line will enable me to receive7send mms without the whole fuss of the n900 constantly picking the mms-connection point?

2) i read every posting in the fmms thread, but i still havent exactly understood what exactly havoc mode does and doesnt do, could you kindly explain with an example?

1) If you enable Havoc mode, it should, yes.

2) http://blog.frals.se/2010/05/19/fmms...now-in-extras/, I'm not sure I can explain it any other way Short story: it opens the connection to the MMS APN in the background when its needed and closes it after sending/receiving.

thanks again, one last question/making the previous one more clear:

"Due to the nature of the kernel in Maemo 5 there are some ugly hacks involved in this, so if your current connection and the MMS APN configuration share the same network namespace, things might get ugly"

what exactly does ugly mean?
