On tablets where rotation support has been enabled, it provides buttons to, well, rotate the display. Plus, with or without rotation support installed, it combines volume and brightness status bar icons into one and provides better control of both those items.

General Antilles and sjgadsby, thanks! (Strange, but I had entered the Xterm command -- apt-get install advanced-backlight osso-software-version-rx34-unlocked
-- but there wasn't anything in the statusbar or panel until I installed it just now from the maemo.org applications page.) All is good now.

Sliderotate doesn't really need to be updated; if you install the rotation support yourself, instead of using sliderotate to do it, sliderotate will still do the slider-, power-, and/or home-controlled rotation.

What if I don't have sliderotate installed yet? It's a fresh reflash. Any way to just install the app part?

Awesome! Thanks for this. Took a few mins, but i got it done. Total noob, but you got me through it.

FYi, when i tried the script from http://sse2.net/rotate/, i got "wget: not found", so cheated (a little) and copied the main script from http://wiki.maemo.org/Rotation into notepad (i already have advanced backlight), saved to the 810 internal memory, then copy and pasted into x term. Worked a treat!

Thanks again.

Hello,
Finally I stop lurking and start asking. I followed the instructions from http://sse2.net/rotate/ with the difference that I did not installed "advance-backlight" because it was already installed. Now my current situation is as follows:
I can rotate the screen with the advanced-backlight panel. But the screen only rotates internally. So if you flip it 180° the screen does not change, but you have to blindly search for the right panels to remove the change. Even worse, if you flip the screen 90° some of the important panels are not on the screen anymore - so you can't press them anymore. My short time fix was to remove the battery.

Can someone please help me solving his problem? I already de-installed adv-backlight and reinstalled it once, tried to install the version from the wiki (apt-get install advanced-backlight osso-software-version-rx44-unlocked), de-installed it and re-installed advanced-backlight again. It would be perfect, if I could get the rotation running. It would be okay if I could get rid of the rotation selection in the adv.-backlight menu.

Please let me know which additional information you need for your tele-inspection.

Yours,
icke

Hey, this was super easy to install on my N800. I followed the instructions on http://sse2.net/rotate/ , and everything but the second file was available. Doesn't seem like it was needed. In any case, this is a great "upgrade". Canola works with it ALMOST perfectly except for when playing an audio file... then the screen gets all jacked up. Still COOL though! THANKS!

Does anybody have required *.deb packages in his own backups? Looks like http://outpo.st/ not providing them anymore. Please, share it.
Thanks in advance.
