Try apt-get clean and apt-get autoclean as root in terminal. It should remove downloaded archive files. Then reboot and try again.

This is easy. Uninstall any applications you can, esp. any from non-core repos., i.e. extras-* or large ones (SDL, MAME, ...).

Then reboot.

You shouldn't have lost your apps, no, unless you used NSU to reflash it instead of the online SSU update?
