Dear Mr. Awesome Software Developer,

We dig your work and really appreciate your time and effort, yet we can't help but share this feeling with you: Taking away happy options and sweet features makes us sad.

Yours truly,

Everyone

P.S. Feel the love.

It should be fairly easy, because there is not much Maemo-specific code, but I'm not sure what the status of Python is on Symbian 3. I believe Google are porting their official YouTube client using Qt Quick.

1) option to have checkbox enabled on all videos to click for download. that way if there is a series you wish do download that has 10 10 minute segments, you can just check each one from the main search screen and then click download, as opposed to clicking each one individually and then hitting back, and finding the next one.

2) ability to play back downloaded videos directly from within the app (if that exists I missed it).

3) finally an option when not using wifi to have downloads and playback switch to 3g if available and then switch back to 2g if it was the default before playback, download.

Thanks again, youtube was really unusable before.
1) That feature has always been available:

2) This feature is also available. The application checks your download directory to see if you have previously downloaded the video (will not work if you change the filename ).

3) I'm getting a headache just thinking about that one. Changing connections takes too long.

Bug
-While video is playing and you accidentally rotate device (give it someone else e.g.) it tries to rotate video but end result is somewhat weird minimized window.
-->Lock screen orientation while playing

And oh please if it is possible leave external player option there
You complain about the 'Playing...' notification and then say there is no feedback. I will probably add a progress bar or other notification when the player is starting up. This pause only occurs when you first load the window. The 'Playing...' notification is useful when you play a playlist, so you know which video is about to be played.

I am trying to solve the rotation problem. The window is set to landscape mode, but it seems that it inherits the auto-rotation from the parent window, so I need to find a way around it.

External player option is not coming back, because I want to make this application eejit-proof.

I might bring back the high resolution options for downloads, but I get sick of people asking why the 720p downloads will not play on the N900.

Downloaded about 18 videos using cutetube. Neither of them worked it said "unable to play video,video format not supported", although a week or two ago, i downloaded a video and it still plays.

An update is available, but haven't updated it yet.

I understand and share the desire for more options, but while options are great for knowledgeable users, they only serve to confuse Mr Joe Average, who will then complain all over the interweb (we've all seen the threads on here ).

I am listed as the maintainer of this application, which means that I am blamed for every problem that every user faces. I would like to provide options, but it's more important to me to have a stable application that works for Mr Joe Average.

I understand where you're coming from, marxian and in case of trouble i'm sure you'll get a lot of crap from a lot of people. However, couldn't you make it a hard to activate option, like not actually having the option for different players in the menu but making it accessible through a hardware keyboard key combination, for example? That way only the more knowledgeable users would use it.

Well, anyway, good job with this app regardless, dude. It rocks.

Great app Marxian. only bug I've found is it's possible to double click the play video button starting two instances of the internal player.

I feel you, my brutha. But I want you to turn that frown upside down. Most people are here to help; not to hinder. Ignore the rest. You're kicking a*s. Good software is good software. Someone will always be complaining, but the better the software, the more meaningless the screams. Keep on truckin'!

It's easy to satisfy Mr. Joe Average. It's Dr. Power User that's the insatiable one.

And that's all I've got; my pom-pons are shredded.

OK. I have re-introduced the option to download higher quality (360p, 480p and 720p). If you download a video using one of these settings, cuteTube will not attempt to play the local file, but will play the stream using the playback quality setting.

Examples:
  • Download using 'Mobile' or '480x270': cuteTube will play using the local file.
  • Download using '360p', '480p', '720p': cuteTube will ignore the local file and play using the stream as per the playback quality setting.

IIRC somebody wanted this. Here is hack to see 'Most Viewed' of some other region than default,

Code:
In /opt/cutetube/cutetubewindows.py

Replace line 473

self.videoFeed = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/standardfeeds/most_viewed?time=today

with

self.videoFeed = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/standardfeeds/JP/most_viewed?time=today
The above feed is for Japan, hence JP. Find the region you are interested in from here.
