Managed to swing a half day so just waiting for the clock to reach a reasonable "lunch" time!

Ok I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that I haven't had a dispatch email nor has my online order status changed. The good news is that I just spoke to a guy at MPD and he confirmed that my device was despatched yesterday but very late. The status is supposed to change some time today so won't be with me today but tomorrow, allegedly. This means that whoever hasn't had an email yet may still receive their toys tomorrow.

I didn't get my despatch email until 2 days after I received the phone, so don't worry about that Once your status changes to ready to despatch you should get you N900 within 2 days.

A few things about the n900.

1) I won't be using ny new Vodafone sim chip just yet. I'll use my existing O2 sim first to test the n900. (Apparently when the sim is registered via your phone your contract will start and also means you accept the contract itself(?) ). It also means if the n900 is faulty there will less complications dealing with "unused" days.

2) Plug n900 into mains and start charging. Check the led status to see if it knows it is being charged.

3) While the n900 is charging. Check the mic is working - make outbound call and receive call.

4) Check screen has no dead pixels.

5) Check for random crashing. Obviously this will manifest itself while I am using the phone. If it starts crashing I'll be sending it right back. I could re-flash it and see if it cures it - no guarantees this will work so better to return it and get replacement as soon as possible.

6) Check the rest of the functionality - wifi, camera, bluetooth and how long the battery lasts between charges.

7) If everything is fine over the weekend then insert vodafone sim and have a really good play and start writing some software for it.

Oh btw: Apparently there is a design "oversight" with the camera lense. The rim around the lense and lense cover is chrome-like and very shiny. Some people have reported "blacking-out" (black tape or use black marker pen) the shiny-bit improves the picture quality. When the flash fires the light "bounces" of the shiney bit and washes out the photo.

I cannot remember where I saw this but there is a site with comparisons.

If anyone is interested I'll post the results of my findings on this thread.

1) - good idea (I did the same - put it in my book of a post over here!)

2) The manual does say you can use what charge it has in... i'd say if it doesnt book up straight away, it's going to be as bricked as it would be after a charge, but good to be safe i suppose

3) Check GPS, Check for dead pixels and test the multi-tasking too

4) Doh my dumb-***-ness strikes again!

5) Good idea, do a few manual reboots first - does improve performance a little bit - then leave it on for a few days.

6) remeber what settings you are using - as there are so many things to do to improve battery - i've got it to 9 hours at solid use - so happy with that.

Ooo not heard the thing about the camera lens part - fine on mine.

Do a review post and link to it on here like mine linked above - as you'll find it's quite hard to do a small review

Good post
