Yes you are right. I am not urging anybody install that package, it was linked as reference only.

It adds only one decoder (or not). Nokia probably doesn't have opinion about Extras Testing.

Extras is the "everyone says it works" repository, Extras-testing is the "probably works" repository, and Extras-devel is the "maybe works, maybe reboots your phone" repository.

Size of the video file isn't issue. Resolution of the actual video is and usually HD videos just happen to be big. If 1 hour video is >1 GB it's usually HD and it won't work.

It is possible to make/get codecs to play extended media files (all types even) beside those by defaults
I've seen some codecs packages in extras-testing and devel

Don't think the N900 as a phone, it's a Linux computer
Most of what you can do on Linux is possible on N900

Isn't there VLC or mplayer available? I never seem to have trouble with support on those.

mplayer is in extras-testing. If you give it a go please keep in mind that it might have some issues.

I'm kinda confused about complaints with the media support. The built in media player has handled everything I've thrown at it so far, including picking up the upnp media server on my wireless network and streaming video from there without breaking a sweat!

Likewise - last night I played an blueray avi rip with almost 10000 bit rate. Worked just fine

I'm more interested in where you are getting full HD 1080P files to play from?
