Thanks, I already have it installed. Unfortunately the rotation is entirely automatic though, doesn't seem to be a manual option

Do you know of a specific risk of bricking with midori? or is this just the well deserved standard warning against enabling testing/devel repos

I think Fennec will also support portrait mode.

Laughing man, how does the Maemo 6 approach to UI solve the rotation issue?

I have a problem with my N900 - an extras app sort of messed it up and now it's unable to install certain apps. A reinstallation of firmware didn't assist (nor formatting mass memory), and I'm guessing the next FW update won't either.

Any suggestions how to bring back to how it's supposed to be in preparation for next fw?

Should this be reopened, or should a new bug be filed?"
Bummer, that's what I get for not reading comments.

If this is the best that Nokia can do, they should just suck it up and say "this is the limit of the front camera quality" rather than make promises about it they can't deliver on.

If they just start testing the new firmware, it will probably take another month or two before it becomes available to the public domain.

yeah but this update was sent out to a select few that arent apart of there normal QA process for firmware.

i think it will be out the first week of janurary, the whole three sim cards not working is a big problem and i can't imagine they would wait another month before releasing an update for that. remember they have that fixed already but just havent released the update.

I know there are bigger issues, but please nokia do something to it as well. My friend's n900 just arrived and I did the video recording and I could see the choppiness even while recording video. I couldn't test the zooming part as I was so excited and just couldn't figure out what to check in that short period of time I was with him but from the sample videos, I can tell it ain't smooth either and watching the playback of such zooming isn't pleasant for sure.

I'm hoping it'll be released soon, as I'm one of the people affected by the 3 SIM card issue - the n900 is lovely, but it'd be even lovelier if the phone and data parts worked.

Regarding the autorotation issue:

I'd like it if there is an autorotation section in settings, which brings up a list f programs with checkboxes alongside. Checked items autorotate, and unchecked items don't. There should be 2 big buttons at the top as well: autorotate all (in essence checks all boxes); autorotate off (unchecks all boxes). This may only be possible for the built-in applications, unless developers are given the info on how to integrate their app into that as well, as it is much better in one place than within each specific app. Apps with no autorotation feature should have the checkbox blank and "greyed out".

Perhaps a default orientation - where the option is available - can also be available here, so a portrait/landscape slider or entry.

All checkboxes on the left so that the length of a program name doesn't get in the way of viewing the important info.
