someone else bought the device without even researching it first?
there are 90% more apps than i need currently available in the repos!
i bought it to mod it to death, and i love it because of that
ANYthing else is a bonus!

edit: and MMS is history, no one used it anyway because of the costs, people were emailing pics and vids, and every network operator knows this, its why iphone ditched it, its why nokia ditched it, hell nokia saved you money doing this and gave you the tools (email integration) to still send pics and vids!
but still the small minds complain

I also don't so I have no problem with this

There you go The guy who started this thread doesnt have any idea of what N900 is capable of but to be honest I don't think he cares about that. He just wants apps and MMS

Cant blame him though , N900 is not for everyone

Damn waste of £500!
Consider that:
- This forum is a minority of all users
- Users without issues don't generally post
- Users with issues tend to get disproportionately loud

And suddenly you realize that the majority of users are probably having no issues and not posting about it here.

Yes, because you always see people logging in that are totally happy with the phone to post things like "my phone is running great, week 27!" every week. The forum is a place to come to talk bout ideas and to ask for help with problems. ALL forums are like that, not just this one.

One thing you'll note here, is that unlike most forums (especially forums that don't have company people monitoring them) most of the threads you mention get resolved by the community helping the person out.

Usually it's user error that's caused it ("I only installed 300 apps from devel!"), which is more common when you're in an open architecture like the N900 (or PCs for that matter). People aren't used to being able to do things that can screw up their phones, since most of them until now have been closed architectures where the company prevents you from messing things up. The N900 is more flexible, and that comes with a cost in the form of a learning curve. Sadly many people who are writing negatively about the device simple refuse to apply themselves to do the minimal learning needed to use and care for the device.

Users without issues but with knowledge also post to help someone who has issues

I really liked this thread very interesting and enlightening and I learned a lot about myself and this community from the highly original original post.

I have a favor to ask the moderators, instead of letting these daily threads proliferate why not merge them together. I particularly like the title N900 graveyard. I have no problems with people *****ing and moaning about the N900, Nokia or Maemo community or any combination of those but to have to sift through threads is not necessary when we can have one sticky to contain them. An added benefit is if anyone is concerned about their use of N900 or purchase of N900 than can quickly read that single thread and see whether or not the device is for them by comparing their use cases to others who have sold/dumped/trashed their N900's.
Thanks

This is off topic, but really it amazes me how many people make dumb choices off the cuff. I had an aunt that bought a car because the liked the color of the car and the stereo in it. Just this past week I had a friend who bought a new LG phone because it looked nice at the store. Then he came to me to ask how to move his contacts from his old phone (which was supported via BitPim). The new phone only supports push protocol via bluetooth, and has no other way to get data onto the phone, so there's no easy way to do it. 0 reseach, 100% bought on a whim based on how it looked.

(Further off topic: If anyone knows how to send a series of vcards programmatically via bluetooth on the N900 I'd love to know. )

I sometimes wonder how such people survive, and curse how wasteful they are. But then I remember without them most retail stores wouldn't exist, since they wouldn't be able to sell junk items at 80% mark-up because the box is pretty. So I think to myself, well, that's how things work, and I'm ahead of the game because I do the research in buying things and generally don't waste time and money later on replacing crappy things.

Welcome to the Walmart generation.
