SOLVED

I downloaded leafpad and pasted the text in that and saved it. It now works flawless! thank you all so much!
Now i only need to change the icon to a custom one. Do you know in what folder i should put it and do i then change the row for icon to myicon instead?

hi CepiPerez, i was triyng to use your openfile command to open an ics file for fast syncing from myapp (todoy) to the default calendar. It works but there are few issues: it just run once, then an error appears while opening the file. if we can handle to fix this, this way will be the definitive solution to all my troubles and to fast enter appointments in the shtty cal, many many thanks...
EDIT
since is working can you give me sources? I would like to ship it with my app...

@ CepiPerez

Hey,
Your solution was great. I am curios if it would be possible to mod it to open an entire folder in the image viewer.

Now it opens up the picture and if you press the back button you get all the images in just that folder. Is there any way we could get to that folder view directly without pressing the back button?

this would be very useful since when you open up the default image viewer it show all pictures and it is a struggle to scroll all the images. And if you filter by folder you have to press 5 times at least to get there.

So if we could have a shortcut to open the image viewer and display all images in a specified folder we could have one for say DCIM and one for other images etc without clogging the view with every single pic in the phone.

When opening an image with your scripts you get access to all the images in that folder. But if you have put your images in a "Private" or the .images folder you don't.
I even tried your filebox script to show folders and got the same result when choosing an image. Due to the . in the folder name all the other pics get locked/hidden since they are hidden from indexing. (but you get them if filtering by folder in the imageviewer)

Since I don't want some images to show up in "all images" a solution to navigate the image viewer to a folder instead of a pic would be ideal. Also, it would be better for all intended purposes to have a shortcut to an image folder instead of a picture, cause why would you want a shortcut to the same single image (which you must know the name of)?

Your help and skills rock by the way!

Just adding to the convo, notepad is ******ed when it comes to line breaks, read a README made in linux on it and see how it shows everything on one line.

May I suggest installing gedit on Windows or using Wordpad if you don't want to use leafpad.

So... I am still using fremantle. No Meego, nothing else

I tried the same as my predecessor and had a severe fight with the .desktop-file. I openend vi on the console and typed in the contents of another .desktop file by hand then saved. No icon or anything. After that I copied nmap.desktop (same contents) to myapp.desktop, edited that one, saved and at least the default icon (blue square) appeared in my shortcut menu.
What can interfere here? As I was using vi I suppose that my first file was saved with unix line endings. I didnīt check but utf-8 is also standard for that editor. I havenīt ever seen any file that wasnīt saved as utf-8 by default with vi. What is the catch?

Lastly: I still have the default icon although I place 48x48, 64x64, 128x128 png images into /usr/share/icons/hicolor/[dimension]x[dimension]/hildon

What must the format be? PNG 24 or PNG 8? What about transparency or alpha maps? Any experiences?

My entry in the desktop file was "Icon=myapp" as discussed before but no icon so far. Permissions are set like permissions on any other image file in the mentioned directories. What am I missing?

There are so many tuts on this desktop icon thingie but none of them covers all the aspects. Iīd love to write a blog entry on that.
