How about the software? If the Z500 was using Moorestown, wouldn't it mean there were tons of x86 software easily portable from other Linux distributions? Though most of them aren't designed to be used with touchscreen UI. ARM-based architecture would be better for N900 users as both devices could benefit from each other.
The key thing for completely new software is Qt, obviously. But still, it's an interesting descision.
