Really? I Tried using my n900 for a couple of days because of a broken n9. I Personally wanted to throw it againsta brickwall. Theres No way I could go back...

n900 and n9 dsp are almost the same(just higher clock on n9), n9 barely plays 720p and you wont get more than that because it is a physical limitation of the chip, not a software one
you can only hope that a software update will enable you to finally play all 720p videos perfectly, althou i wouldnt hold my breath
and 701 plays everything right now, you dont have to hope for a better future that might not be there

go for nokia 701 if u want more apps dolby surround sound, 1.3gigs processor(update is on its way link http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nokia...get-it_id27560), awesome video player(it plays even my 720p MKV),good display(1000nits with Nokia CBD)
go for N9 if u wish to c a new interface(VERY ADDICTIVE),good support(from this community)
cost wise 701 has upperhand.if your budget is low go for 701.

I went for 701. It was an extremely difficult decision though - if not for the replaceable battery on 701 I'd chosen the N9.
