The skinny bar along the top in landscape or right side in portrait can be swiped horizontally for landscape or vertically for portrait. This changes between the primary and secondary pages. Each page has its own buttons and widgets.

Second page will look something like this. http://asui.garage.maemo.org/screens...-landscape.png

Tap the "settings" button to open the settings app where you can configure the command buttons. Then reload ASUI from within the settings app. Now close settings and tap the "edit buttons" or "edit widgets" buttons on the secondary page.

If you want the command button on the button bar use "edit buttons". Tap the command you created, make sure its not hidden and then tap an empty space in the button bar. You can swipe the true button bar to change pages.

You can also leave the command buttons in their widgets and use "edit widgets" to move them around. Swipe button bar to change pages.

Edit: I crossed posts. @ endsormeans:

I certainly wouldn't put it past me to screw up but as for DT, I followed the developer's instructions and since the test kernel seemed to be only an option, I didn't flash it. But I followed all the other steps and have had no complaint. Except for the cifs.ko. So yesterday, I did go back and flash the test kernel.

As for ASUI, I passed on the CSSU repo since I didn't need screen rotation. The developer seemed to make rotation an option. But no CSSU may be tied to no command buttons, I don't know.

I'm willing to start again, flash the whole thing and install all repos if that would bring up ASUI's command buttons, which remain elusive...

@ auouymous Thank you for your clear instructions, they make total sense, but when I bring up the GTK menu in landscape I get: "Statusbar, Battery, Clock, Brightness, WiFi, RBV Keys, Button Modes, Power Button, Device Lock, User Interface, Alarm, Audio Lock, Services, MCE"

I just don't find "command buttons," not in the menu choices that I've listed or within in their subcategories.

Update: with my other N810, I reflashed it, followed this thread to the letter:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...highlight=n810 (thanks, endsormeans)

and have nothing installed except repos: maemo extras, Community SSU, and maemo Extras-Devel, Diablo Turbo, and ASUI

My ASUI install has screen rotation, and its GTK does not appear to have command buttons

Very strange, I'm clearly doing something wrong,
Jake

Ah...
Hm.
Well.
I found it took a while of fiddling and playing and using to start noticing the differences in functionality with partial installs.
As well CSSU has more than just screen rotation...it as well has alot of fixes and improvements.
As auouymous mentions ...if you want commands...2nd page of ASUI the "edit buttons" "edit widgets" should get you there.

If you have your machine in front of you, I'd much appreciate it if you can see if you have command buttons available. Because "edit buttons" and "edit widgets" are--as far as my understanding--only to rearrange their physical location, nothing to do with setting up the command buttons.

My bad ...
you are right there.
Just started Bessy up.
Running on what I remember I have used the edit buttons to move stuff around countless times...figured the option to add command buttons there was a given.
Hm.

Hum-ity hum-hum.
I've done a little hunting ...
I'll have to do some more...
I do know the man who would know more than any other is auouymous considering ASUI is his pet. If anyone has the answers it would be him. For now I'm going to continue to dredge and dig up what I can on the topic and tell you what I find...
Hum. I know I'm missing/ forgetting something obvious that I used to know.

Many, many thanks. At least I no longer feel that I'm losing my faculties

Could be a version thing. I'm running 0.6.0. Maybe command buttons got dropped along the way, or perhaps DT messes with command buttons in someway, though I couldn't imagine how...

Naw ...you aren't goin' loopy.
At least not yet.
But hell...I mean.. I am probably the LAST guy to ask for a sanity check.
If you had an upside down colander of spaghetti on head and were wearing it showing off your new "do" ...the only things which would make me question your sanity would be..."Is it still warm?" (cold is just icky) and you better not have rinsed (under running water) all the goodness outta the pasta..."
What is "sanity" anyway I ask you?
Sanity is likened to a pair of jockey shorts 3 sizes too small on the brain.
A Highly overrated and unattainable vague social construct which we attempt to hold ourselves and others up to.

As far as versions go. I looked ...perhaps I missed it but ...
yeah I didn't notice a "command" button to add buttons/ widgets in any of the versions (move em around sure...but not create/ add new ones...) Also the default install installs the latest version I believe ...which is the best yet.
No complaints outta me for the last ~nth years..
Oh...except ...when is the next version coming?
Any other coolass (woohoo! I got past the swear filter! Where's my award? I want to thank my manager ...and uh...Buffy my roadie, fan and sometimes mistress for believin' in me all these years...and to the haters...hatemyass ...wa-hooey! 2 in a row! ) stuff coming auouymous?

BTW [as an aside here] forget the casbah...
auouymous rocks the Maemo!...rocks the Maemo!

I think auouymous was showing in those last few posts how to um..."integrate" (for lack of a single better word) a "function" into the ASUI so that it can identify it as a command button/ widget which can then be utilized and run in the interface.

The ASUI link he posted earlier does talk specifically about command buttons replete with a menu for their running (in root, etc), but how one gets there remains a mystery to me.

Thanks for trying out the other version--good to know they don't readily have it either.
