They completely misunderstood my reason for mentioning it (which was to point out relevant expertise) and told me they didn't have a way to support participation of ex-employees.

But even more disconcerting was the request that I not discuss this issue further at the forum.

I think this is likely to be a lawyer thing.

Someone is worried that as an ex employee your comments may be read as facts supported by Nokia. As stupid as it sounds. And unlike current employees they cannot have a NDA to prevent you saying anything they would rather you did not.

So in lawyer terms the safest option is to remove the risky element.

Also

Nokia really doesn't want the risk of ex employees disagreeing with their own engineers on there own site. At some point in the near future Nokia is likly to make a claim as to the cause etc of this issue.

You may disagree. As an ex Nokia employee you would have credit. They do not want that in there playground.

Its not right but it is usual for any big company.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

I know I'm a risk.

Well I am sure you could make a little money as a qualified experienced engineer turning up in small claims courts to testify to the fit for purpose status of N900 microUSB sockets.

Best thing is if you do it well Nokia will be paying costs for you to testify against them

Is it just me who thinks the statement by Nokia says absolutely nothing? They say that usual warrantly applies to N900, we already knew that. So in essence they aren't saying they will tell Nokia Care points that the MicroUSB ports have a flaw, and thus Nokia care points will continue to blame the user?..

Ah well, we'll see what happens...

Sometimes I wish a real person would sit down and talk about things instead of some PR spinner.. Ah well, SOME response is better than complete silence.

My phone has had this problem. It has not been dropped or subject to any excessive force. mobicity, Australia, provided me with the photo (attached) after refusing to honour their warranty.
