All I can say,

NOW

You trying to put IPhone4 vs N900 and imho there is something to compare. No matter who is the winner and met your expectations.

BUD

If you put IPhone 4 vs IPhone 3GS you can see how much better it is... right?

SO

Do you see how pointless and fanboish was to put iPhone3GS vs N900? Or still blind

We are so primitive animals with that kind of perception people!

Think for a while if the same mechanism works in everything around us...

I don't care for mms because I don't use it. But the fact of the matter is a lot of people use mms and no official support for it is poor form. Especially when something like petrovich was added in firmware upgrade

iphone 4 is not an option for me:

it is not available unlocked, you MUST sign up for a two year contract with one provider to get one.

still no real user accessible filesystem

no hardware keyboard

no integrated sip stack(i have been using sip since 2005 and now it comprises probably 70pct of my voice usage

I was looking for a phone for the Mrs and it was between iPhone 4 and an HTC Desire, but now I have made the decision to stick to the desire. Based on this comparison, the two phones are not that different feature wise, but I can get the Desire free with what would be effectively a £23.50 per month contract for 18 months (after upfront cash back) but for iPhone, I would probably have to pay £90 on a two year £35 per month contract. So effectively the Desire is almost £350 cheaper over two years, and I just couldn't justify paying that kind of premium for the iPhone.

This is interesting. I haven't really followed the gyroscope talks, but could someone please explain what value it adds to navigation purposes (considering you already have gps and compass)?

I guess it might come handy if you leave earth orbit, but that can't be all..

well for one the gyro would make those augmented reality maps more accurate.

As for the back and forth with the n900/iphone lovers and haters.
why can't both groups just accept that they are both good phones?

n900 lovers/iphone haters the iphone 4 is a good high spec device, why don't you see that?

iphone lovers/ n900 haters can't you see that a lot of the hardware you are getting excited about already exists in th N900?

There is a gyro and compass in the N900?

no, not even a compass I'm afraid.

If your reply is refering to my post I was talking about flash (not the adobe kind), front facing camera with video chat, 5 MP back camera. high density display.

so for me the only iphone 4 hardware difference I'm interested in is wireless n and compass, can't say gyro excites me. I'm just saying both sides need to understand that people can be happy with what they want or currently have without having to belittle other peoples choices.
if somebody sees nothing in iphone 4 then thats fine probably becuase they have most the things they want on their n900. at the same time there is no reason to dismiss the iphone 4, it's a good device.
there really is no need to get all worked up about it. as the tag says

"waste of time"

Well, there's always SMSes with ASCII art.

There's e-mail -- I know it may be shocking, but I could use email with my S40 phone. You could post it online and SMS a link. And, if those are too awkward (and they may well be, if you find yourself sharing many pictures with friends with lame phones), you were SOL for a few months (at which time arguing about this made sense), but there is support now.

At this point, now that the support is here, arguing about who uses it and doesn't seems utterly pointless -- the fact is, everyone who wants to use it now can. It's just as irrelevant to point to that historical period now as it is to point to the equivalent period in the iPhone's history (and FWIW, I, no fan of Apple or most iStuff, find it incredibly lame when someone tries to mock Apple for that mistake now).

Now the argument has moved on: Why does it matter that MMS support has come from a developer in the community instead of a corporation that's guaranteed to stop releasing updates at some point, and whose development process has shown pronounced, shall we say, "resilience" to all feature requests from the outside? On second thought, it clearly does matter -- but how can you think the situation we have is the worse one?

(For one tiny example of why Nokia shouldn't in-house this sort of thing, albeit one burned brightly in my memory, look up the saga of the bluetooth applet sometime... Brief summary from Karel Jansens quoted here)

As for multitasking, apple responded to consumers and not the competition. Consumers that demanded. multitasking switched to competitors and apple responded to that.
Nonsense. Consumers demand all sorts of things, but they don't often get them unless there's risk of them going elsewhere to for them -- i.e. competition. Both were involved, and stating that it was only a response to consumers is at least as misleading as stating that it's competition.
