I was first to report it, on a pre-release device but after official release of the product.

Just curious and if I missed the post on it I am sorry.

Has anyone with a broken or damaged connector tried to dissasmble their N900 and repair it?

I do a ton of electrical repair but wasn't sure what the actual mount looks like outside of it being a surface mount.

Has anyone been brave enough or allowed someone else to repair their device with like a Hirose surface mount plug?

Again just curious because if mine ever breaks I will be tempted to just fix it myself for like $3 rather than sending it to Nokia to screw up again.

I didn't try to repair mine myself, but have been told it was not possible to repair because of the damage to the circuit board. This matches the photo I previously posted. I believe the tracks have been ripped off the circuit board at the solder joint.

It's possible to repair, just not at all easy. Not recommended for those unskilled in PCB repair.

i might have missed this

but what can we do to prevent this from happening?

carefully plug and remove usb?

it would be very difficult for me to replace/repair once i go back to Asia when they dont even sell this device

Yeah after looking at the image posted earlier it looks possible but man what a mess. I can't beleive that Nokia would mount a high use plug in such a horrible manner, pre-production or not.

I guess I will just keep praying my stays together. . . feel bad for all you out there which has had this happen to.

Sorry to ask
And i understand fully, given recent Nokia actions, if you are uncomfortable answering this.

But for those of us with less knowledge of modern circuit board techniques.

Can you explain what from that picture informs you that the connector was not torn off due to an accident of some form?

This may help some of us at a later date?
