Should I wait to see if Nokia announce anything regarding UK specific FW? Where do they usually announce this sort of information?
If you're okay with the global firmware then you might as well continue with it, especially as Nokia seem reluctant to actually make the UK firmware images available.

Application manager gave me the "you must use usb..." error when trying to update, with 54MB free on rootfs (but I didn't get an error about not enough space or anything else). I did 'apt-get dist-upgrade' and rebooted instead, and everything seems fine...

You need to check your rootfs space, disable extras-devel, extras-testing , and try again.

Now I tried the firmware upgrade, but the action tells me that I must use the application Nokia Software Update.
I have a GNU / Linux computer, how can I do?
Thank you!

there is a link to wiki page here. find it and your problems are probably solved. and in the future dont touch to extras-testing stuff if you cant deal with these situations by yourself.

This usually indicates a conflict with an installed app. You can try uninstalling some of the -devel/-testing apps (ioquake & openarena seem to be common ones).
